  2. Not in my case. I'm a catholic, but I consider myself agnostic. And the song is just epic, partly because of it's theme - BETRAYAL. You don't have to be religious to get how strong the story about Jesus and Judas is.

    I never thought of UTEOTW as a masterpiece, until I heard it live in Zagreb. That was such a blow mind and so was in Torin this year. Now I think that's one of the finest songs they ever wrote. Intro outro, solos, lyrics. If you want to make a perfect rock song, it just can't go any better than UTEOTW.

    And you know, they never change it to much, but it never gets boring. In fact, I think that now it sounds better than ever.

  4. I'm intrigued by people talking about the lyrics - I'm atheist, but I don't find the lyrics difficult to connect with at all because I appreciate the content matter they are referring to. As far as the song as a whole goes, I love it because I feel it's one of the most complete bits of songwriting any band or artist has put together ever. I can't be more straightforward than that I'm afraid lol.
  5. Intresting this thread has come up today. I have randomly listened to Until the End of the World through out the day which is pretty rare that this track pops up soo much.....

    After today this track has a new meaning for me and I love how U2 songs do that.. they sort of creep up and hit you from behind, (well for me anyway)..

    I love this track because It ROCKS Live!! I love screaming along with Bono when he sings Love, Love, Love.... Good times. Edge's playing is Amazing, especially in between verses and choruses!! For me the lyrics make sense. Sometimes I could see myself being the one who is talking about the end of the world when evrybody else is having a good time. The last verse about waves of regret and reaching out to the one I tryed to destroy really makes sense to me because sometimes we as people stab eachother in the back then we reach out to them when we need them the most. (Just my interpretation).

    I really didn't have a clue that this track was about Judas until I was listening to one of the boots and Bono says, "Jesus, this is Judas" At that point, it hit me, agh... so now the lyrics make complete sense. Pretty Cool, what U2 does.

    Overall Great Song! It Rocks, Edge Rocks and whoever wrote the lyrics, I'd say was very clever!! A++ Track!!

    My favorite Live version!!! WooHoo!! Wish I was there!!!!
  6. In my opinion, the album version and the live version (mainly Elevation tour and beyond) have very different moods and tones.

    The somewhat calm intro in the album version makes the song seem a bit more controlled while the live version has the tendency to make its listeners want to turn the volume to the max. Lyrically, the song is art. I would think that everyone can relate to the theme of "living like it's the end of the world" with or without any religious background, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

    Personally, I think the song is amazing, both on the album and live. I can see it performed during every show and still get the crowd going like Streets.

To know the history of not just this song but the making of the record, the whole record dealt with betrayl, revenge, love and lust, temptation, and what better story to use than the story of Jesus and Judas. Another biblical content used was the story of Salome. I think what UTEOTW does for me is Edge puts his heart into the song maybe for the simple reason of his divorce at the time. Bono's poetic story of Judas' bitterly twisted point of view that was never really mentioned or used in ANY song before, is pure genious. Adam's driving bass follows the story to the bitter end, and Larry's drumming brings it all together. UTEOTW has always been my favorite song off of Achtung Baby and definitely in my Top 5 favorite U2 song's. I was instantly hooked when I first heard it. It's sonic sound, it's shifts and turns in the music. You have to realize also, at the time there wasn't that kind of sound in music that we are accustomed to since you've heard so many times. It's pure poetry what each band member brings to the table with this song. It is one of the few TRUE kick ass U2 songs and it will continue to be a staple in their repretoire

  11. Love is Blindness and UTEOTW are way up there on my list. I actually think UTEOTW has been one of the highlights of the 360 tour this year. They have just been rocking it out. Achtung Baby as a whole is just brilliant.

I think if you didn't know it was about Judas and Jesus, and you also didn't know about the story of Jesus, the last supper, Judas's betrayal and the crucifixion, the lyrics in the song could play out like any betrayal from a person you love.

    Completely away from the lyrics, it's top 3 in my rocking U2 tracks. Listen to Kiel from second leg of Zoo TV tour ("Turn up the fucking guitar Joe, guitar Joe, guitar Joe!!!". Edge just seems to connect like never before and the song went from good to bloody amazing.

    I'm about as atheist as someone can be, thinks religion this day in age is just plain silly(but that's not what the thread is about) but Until The End of the World has always been one of my favorite U2 songs, first hearing it on the best of 90-00'(which got me into U2) and was sad they didn't play it last year in Chicago on opening night.

    Meanings of songs very rarely matter much to me, as long as they aren't horrible, I could care less if the music is wonderful.

    I think you're assuming too much about non-believers. And gotta love Bono singing about getting a BJ.
