It’s funny how, after all the ‘setlist-bitching’ that I myself are sometimes guilty off on these forums (“guilty your honour, but it still IS a ‘greatest hits’ tour…”), you forget about all that the minute you hear Stingray going into Beautiful Day! The sheer excitement and arousal of being at a U2 gig again makes you forget the pittyfull moaning instantly!
What a night we had, what great spirits and good fun! Walking from the car to the stadium, together with 50.000 other friendly people, buying ourselves some Belgium ‘Friet met mayonaise’ (chips) and picking a nice spot on the field, all contributes to getting in that very special mood/ state of mind that for me is unique to a U2 concert. From there on it’s all good…. I Will Follow, UTTEOTW, Miss Sarajevo, the “Belgium Homecoming”- speech at the start of ISHFWILF, its U2 in great form and in a real Flow. You can taste they are really having fun and they are not ‘doing their duty’ by thrashing out hits, but genuinly enjoy playing these particular songs they chose… well maybe not on SBS, but even that song gave me goosebumps because of the images on the screen and the added lyrics.
Hearing North Star and Mercy live was incredible!!! And I never thought I would hear myself say that, as far as Mercy is concerned………but somehow all the pieces fell into place.
Highlights didn’t stop after that: UV is phenomenal, and the prolonged ooooooh ooooooohh after With Or Without You maximised the Goosebumps again: the band took a bath in the audience at that time, taking extra time to savour the moment and receive the roaring applause.
Moment of Surrender finally, has surpassed Love is Blindness as a showcloser. (again, never thought I would hear myself say that!!)
What I night, what a show, what a band! Who cares about the traffic jam afterwards? It helps to hang on to the brilliance of the U2-experience as long as possible!
Still exhausted, but……Thank God I have another opportunity tonight!!
What time is it in the World today? Showtime!!!

The sound yesterday was perfect. Hardly any echo, crystal clear. We had a perfect spot, a few meters before the outer ring, right in front of Bono. The crowd was good and sang along most of the songs (except for Mercy lol, I think 5 guys in my surrounding sung along with me).
Highlight for me was Mercy, surprisingly. The lyrics may suck somewhat but the song does work live. I was glad they played I Will Follow and North Star/Mercy. Disappointed to see MLK again instead of Mothers, a song I really adore. And I had hopes for Batman, instead, I saw Ultraviolet again. Which isn't bad ofcourse![]()
The crowd chanting after WOWY which kept Bono from speechifying before MOS was great too.
U2 really fucked up Magnificent somewhere in the middle. Edge got the melody wrong and Bono instantly forgot the lyrics. He captured himself well though.
All in all a great gig. For those on the internet a rather basic setlist, but the show was lovely. Band was on fire too.
