It's not so much the media. I want something for browsing the net around the house without having to sit at the PC. The E71 is a great phone and for web out and about for not much else. Netbooks are too slow and tablets are too expensive. iPod Touch seems a good go between and I always have the Sansa for music if I can't get the touch to do flac.
  2. The touch is a good choice then has a big screen and decent browser

  3. It's the way forward. Shall pick up one of the new Symbian 3 devices from Nokia around Christmas. That will do until they start plugging Meego. . .
  4. Why is everyone so interested in getting FLACs on their iPods. I mean it's the equivalent of putting a HD 1080p video on your phone, it's just a waste of space. Lossless should be left to the purpose of archiving CDs.

Lossless is hugely overrated as well, just like $200 HDMI cables - the vast majority of people (99.99%) will not be able to hear a difference between the lossless and a high quality vbr rip and that's with high end headphones/ sound system - with most headphones it wouldnt make a difference.

I'm quite surprised that most of the bootlegs up here are also uploaded in lossless - it is major overkill as the source (eg. the recording equipment) will in no way do justice to the resolution of the lossless format (ie. it's not professionally mastered in a studio like CDs). What should be of more concern is changing all the MP3 format bootlegs to VBR instead of CBR encodes - as that actually will make a difference in quality that people can actually hear.

I'm in the 0.01% bracket so I ugnored your post. Maybe you don't have good speakers or headphoNes?

  6. Same. Get a good FLAC rip and tell me you can't hear the difference. A-B comparisons show so.

Dont know much about Apple, but Im sure there are media players for it that can play FLAC. But maybe not one using the main interface

VLC is now in the Apple Store and a FLAC plugin for other media players like PwnPlayer is on Cydia.

You cant compare FLAC with 200 usd HDMI cables. FLAC is the format bootlegs come in, and $200 HDMI are complete rip offs since all HDMI cables are lossless up to a certain length.

And it doesnt really matter if you hear it, its also the thought of hearing stuff in the best available quality.

[offtopic]Also I upload all bootlegs encoded using VBR [/offtopic]
  8. I'm off to buy a new iPod touch it seems.

  9. Rockbox isn't, but Android is. The new touches, nothing can be done with those yet if you wanna jailbreak or play FLAC on them.

Suppose I could pick up a 3rd gen iPod touch and save a few quid. The retina display is nice but it's a bit gimmicky, as is the camera.

You may as well if you don't care about cameras and retina displays - or a way to play FLAC and decent battery life.
  10. Bought the 4g. Mate works in the apple store so sorted me with a discount.
  11. Wow, I didn't even know a new iPod touch came out lol

  12. Tis lovely. Slimmer with a better screen and some useless cameras. Addicted to Snooker
