1. I seem to do this quite often, and I always wish there was a thread for people to share stories like this on, so I created one....

...Ever HATE a U2 song (okay, maybe even not HATE, just generally dislike), and then one time, you listen to it...and it just clicks? You hear something new, or something in your life finally draws the song to you, or whatever...basically, you have some sort of epiphany that draws you into a song you previously had distaste for.

This is the thread to share stories, etc, about those moments.

Most recent for me, actually just happened this very minute, which is why I created the thread.

I'm listening to 1987-12-19, Tempe AZ, last night of the Joshua Tree Tour. I've never been a huge fan of "One Tree Hill". I didn't dislike it, I just didn't think it was by any means spectacular. I tried to keep myself quiet about it around here since I know its a widely loved song, and I don't see the purpose raining on others' parade. Anyway, this is smack dab in the middle of that set...and hearing the live performance of "One Tree Hill" in this set completely changed the way I hear the song. Something about the magic encased in the intro, evolving live and really taking over the band- music guiding those who play it. I can feel the spirit in that performance, and now I can feel the spirit in the studio one as well. What an experience.

Recently, my eyes were also opened to "Original of the Species"- what really draws me into that one is the delay in the chorus...it chimes so perfectly, and the lyrics really are beautiful to me (except "Give you everything that you want/Except the thing that you want"...what is that all about?!)

Also, listening to the Jeep Mix of "Lemon" made me appreciate the studio version much more, and actually enjoy the song for what it was. I had never liked that one either.

    So, please share!!!

EDIT: Crew, you might want to retitle the thread...I had named it "...I Got It", but then I remembered a little too late that you can't have those in thread titles. My bad Do what you wish with the title!
  2. I do love these songsss too! Bout time you got it Ahaha I would LOVE Original of the Species after Still Haven't Found but that won't happen. I'm excited for One Tree Hill in December in Auckland
  3. Topic renamed
  4. I rarely dislike U2 songs, and in case I do, they rarely "click" anymore for me. But nice story about One Tree Hill, Nate

I think if the song is about Edge's daughter, he could give her anything she wanted money wise, but couldn't give her the thing she wanted... not to be sick.
  6. It's happened to me with Lemon, UTTEOTW, Breathe, BTBS just off the top of my head. Strongly disliked all of these when I first listened to the; 3 are in my top 10 now! (although admittedly it's still the live version for Lemon).
  7. I hated Stuck In A Moment with a passion once (until only a couple of years ago in fact) and now I like it especially the end with Edge and Bono singing.

One Tree Hill and Promenade were the same, but almost all U2 songs that I love (which are countless) are very instant with me.
  8. It happened most often with the entire "Pop" album, I suppose...never really cared for any of them aside from "Discotheque", "Do You Feel Loved" and "Last Night on Earth"...and now I love the whole album, start to finish...with the exception of the electric version of "Wake Up Dead Man". I still prefer the live acoustic one from the Elevation Tour, to be specific.
  9. I hated Kite for a long time. Skipped it at ATYCLB etc. But then i was talking to my friends about "what song would you like to be played at your funeral" (yes i talk about that strange things). Didn't have an answer for it, but then i saw the Slane-dvd and decided not to skip Kite. Delivered me an answer to that question and a new top-10 U2-song.
  10. I think a song like Please did it for me. I didn't dislike the song on the album. I'm not too crazy about the Single version. But what got it for me to hear it and see it live during Popmart. It definitely hit hard on me after 9/11 with the whole September...October.....November...December part. Also it was one of the first U2 song I learned to play note for note and it gave me a whole new appreciation for the song. I think I would go ballistic if I were to see U2 play Please again live. Couple of other songs come to mind... Cry/Electric Co. during Vertigo Tour. Again I never disliked the song studio or live. But for some reason the song seemed to grow balls on that tour. In fact, that whole tour made me reevaluate the whole album Boy. That's why I love Under A Blood Red Sky DVD...plus the CD of course. Another perfect example is The Fly during Elevation Tour. I love love love the song and again it grew balls on that tour as well. For Nate, if you really want to hear the best version of One Tree Hill I would recommend the Dublin shows during the LoveTown Tour. CHEERS
  11. since i heard that Bono was actually singing: a MOLE digging in a hole.....etc, i started to appreciate the song more (didn't really hated it), just because of that stupid mole (I think it is funny that he uses the word mole in lyrics), I know this sounds ridiculous, and it is
  12. Happened with me and Miami. I used to absoutely HATE the song. But then I listened to the Popmart Leeds bootleg and it all of a sudden clicked for me and now I quite like it.
