I think u2 could be heading off into dangerous water's if they start to be hurt by poor review's and album sale's as their artist freedom SHOULD never be compromised for commercial success of course they want the critic's to love everything they do but not to the extent they lose long term fan's.I first got into u2 in 1982 and have grown up with u2 album's being the sound track to my life and in the past in my opinion they have stayed very safe in recent time's musically for me Zooropa did'nt work but hey only for me i know fan's who love it each to their own,Pop i thought was a great gritty album yet again i know fan's who hated it.I u2 we must trust as i have for the last 28 year's to reinvent it all again like the change from Rattle and hum to Acthung baby as u2 fan's we can dare to dream only the release of song's of ascent will then we be put in the picture until then put on your favourite u2 album and remember why you got into them in the first place?Peace on earth.....
  6. Bono keeps talking about being relevant, but he shouldn't believe he can be. Think about it. He is in the .1% richest people on earth and has been than way for almost 20 years. He hasn't HAD to deal with the everyday worries and struggles 99.9% of the people on the street, or listen to the radio do everyday. You can't expect to stay relevant to these people.

    Mate - if you simply want to criticise U2 or Bono - find another site - I am getting fed up with the begrudger's and the constant snipers. So what is he has got a lot of money - that's just the price of success - Get Over It!!!!

    Nonsense, money doesn't guarantee a good life and doesn't bring you luck without sorrows or worries. I'm glad I'm not rich, wouldn't know what to do with it after a month.
  9. I think you both don't understand the meaning of relenvancy. He doesn't live paycheck to paycheck, or worry about having air conditioning when it's 100 degrees outside or having a winter coat when it's cold. Its nice that you guys seem to be well off but don't ignore those who aren't. I will speak my opinion mate if I want and if you can't handle it, you should try another site.

    That wouldn't make him relevant. People come from all different walks of life. He wasn't doing that when U2 wrote/recorded The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, The Unforgettable Fire, or any of the albums that you happen to like by U2- but somehow, U2 was still relevant. Because they took a portrait of the world and appealed to what so many people wanted/needed to hear, and brought about changes in their style to keep everyone entertained for generations. THAT'S being relevant. So maybe they're being criticized for not being that way right now. Whatever. But it has nothing to do with walks of life. The only thing that well-being and amount of struggle has anything to do with it is how YOU hear the music based on YOUR life. It affects everybody differently.

    U2 was able to write songs like Sunday Bloody Sunday, Bad, etc., not because that happened to them, or because they were absolutely immersed in the events- it was because they could open their eyes to what was going on and had enough passion and guts to put that into music and distribute it for everyone to hear. They're an incredibly intelligent band.

    It's fine that your opinion is that U2 aren't relevant- but don't say that because you didn't like the new album and still liked the previous ones. That has nothing to do with it, using your perspective. They've been rich and famous for ages now, and none of us have ever been. That's never changed what they meant to some of us.

    That's a bunch of crap. That's why urban music has become so popular is because the cities are growing and those people form those backgrounds can relate to those songs. Ask a black person from the streets if he can relate to most of the U2 songs. They usually only know of Bono or of U2 but not the any songs. Why? Because they can't relate to what he's saying and how their saying it. If you can't understand that look at the today's music charts. That's just dumb saying relevant isn't about how well off a person is. Look at the facts, at what's being played, instead of this theoretical bullsh$$ you've concocted.

    I never said I didn't like their new album, I did. To me, them being relevant doesn't matter. I like their music anyways, thats why I said, "I don't know why Bono cares so much about being relevant".-- If it affected everybody so differently, no one artist would be extremely popular. And your trying to tell me how I listen to music. It's obvious if you know anything about U2 that when they made all those great albums you listed, U2 wasn't set for life, they still could go broke, with the exception of Achtung Baby. So yeah, relevancy obvisoulsly does have something to do with popularity or selling albums. And when Bono says a coffee shop he used to go to regularly, got blown up,I'd say he felt those struggles. You can have your personal opinion, but when U2 made the Joshua Tree, their highest selliong album, they weren't set for life, and that's a fact.
