1. Or when do you think they should?

I was sitting at my computer, listening to our favourite band, when I just got the thought in my head that U2 will retire in my lifetime. Although this may be an obvious realization, it's also a hard-hitting one once you start thinking about it. It was for me anyway. It's weird to think that U2, who've been going strong since 1976 up until now will end their career someday. It's pretty damn sad actually I was just wondering what are your thoughts on this U2start members? Do you think they should retire before they get into novelty status? Do you think they'll ever reach that status of being a novelty act? Do you think they should go on until they physically can't do it anymore? (Let's pray Bono's back really is better...). Kind of a depressing topic, but I'd just like to know I'm not alone in feeling sad and a bit depressed when I start thinking that U2 will eventually retire one day!

By the way, if this has already been made into a thread somewhere please direct me to it. I couldn't find one.
  2. Definitely no later than 2020

I don't want to see 70 year olds perform - they should go out with a bang, not a whimper.
  3. It's a question I don't want to answer. Let's just all just enjoy it while it lasts.

I don't want to see 60 year olds perform!! The Rolling Stones should have retired years ago.

As for U2, I don't know if they would be able to tour again after this since that half the band has back problems. Another tour might be too much for Bono.

  5. Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen or Neil Young all put on incredible live shows. If you don't want to see old people, good for you, leave the tickets to others.
  6. They're 50 now and are still putting on a bloody good show, some people here may disagree and say that they're past it or whatever. Try telling that to the millions of folks who have seen them on this worldwide tour that still has some way to go.

I don't really care how old they are as long as they are still good at what they do best. I think the band, maybe not so much Bono, will know when their time is up - and even when they call it a day, we all know that they probably will conttinue at a slower pace.
  7. I don't know why they should stop making music. Sure, they'll have to stop touring eventually, but as long as they are making music, albeit at a slower pace, I'm fine.

  8. I don't like to think about it, but it means they'll be at home a bit more and I have more of a chance to catch them in the pub
  9. i dunt like thinking about this either, i didnt hop onto the u2 train until early 2006, thats only 5 years of enjoying their music and concerts. id love another decade or so. i just saw them twice last week and they were amazing. Aslong as they keep enjoying it, i think they will keep going. how old is tom jones? like 70 and he still puts on a great show

  10. I hope never, never and never!!
