I don't mind the bootlegs, i think we all have a nice picturedisc or rare show that we're very proud of... (and paid some good money for?)
what i hate more is these ticketscalpers and ticket-sell-websites who sell tix for 2 or 3 times more than the original price !

If they did release every concert as a bootleg with a cool cover etc, i would purchase as many as possible, they would be like official releases, they would make a mint!!

  4. Pearl Jam stopped it.If you check their web site, they have for sale, every show they have played from 2008-2010.As most of you know,PJ have released every show they have played (except benefit gigs) since 2000,when they released all 72 shows to music stores.I have purchased dozens upon dozens of shows from their website,or on ebay, for as little as $5.So,yes..Pearl Jam stopped it.Why download or buy a bootleg, when you can have a released version??..If U2 released gigs on their website via download or cd,I personally would purchase many. But,for some unknown reason,U2 wont do this.Depeche Mode release most gigs since 2005 on their site.E.Vedder said,he saw a PJ bootleg in a record shop in 1999.The price was off the charts. He bought it,and told the rest of the band "We gotta release our shows to stop this bootleg shit".Mission accomplished Ed.

If people did record it though and shared or traded it freely rather than selling it, would PJ mind that?

It's a wonder U2 don't sell them considering they can even sell them lossless - look at the FLAC being sold in their online store. So if MP3 isn't good enough for them they can do it that way. But I guess for whatever reason, they just don't want to. It'd be an interesting question to ask them.

@peterneillphoto Report them to eBay, say it's an illegit bootleg they're selling. Don't mention it's your cover but they're selling something unauthorised.

It would be the same situation. Today the stuff Godfather and others sell can be obtained freely. Why buy something you can legally get for free? Still there is a market. And there would still be a market for audience boots if U2 sold their board recordings.
It would be nice to have for sure - but wouldn't stop bootlegging.

I agree with what you you are saying. But, I really dont see ANY audience PJ bootlegs. There is no sound reason for it.Yes,I see alot of sites where you can download PJ shows for free,Im sure Vedder isnt happy about that. But he did say,if they arent still selling a show, anything prior to 2008,you can "download it for free..just dont sell it" I honestly think U2 arent comfortable having show after show available.Look at what they did with Mercy and MOS from the WAIE E.P. They edited the songs so much, they sound like they were re-recorded.I just wish U2 would release a live CD for once.

I dont think Vedder would mind. But,the thing is.Why buy an amature audience recording, when you can buy a released version from PJ.com ?..I have seen many sites where you can illegally download PJ live shows, for free. But,if the show isnt being sold anymore on PJ.com,Vedder is ok with it.Just dont sell it on ebay.I have purchased hundreds of PJ gigs in the last 10 yrs.If U2 sold this past summers European shows online,I would have purchased at least 10 of those great shows.Maybe more.I just dont get why they dont sell their shows. One show for $9.99 a download.Id be all over that. But,they wont.

  11. my 2 cents.
in these days if you tape it (no U2 authorized) and put it in the web, etc....it´s a risk someone will steal and sell. but for me, you (who taped) also stole from U2 ...

you may be starting the process ....

  12. What do I steal when I tape?
