    Has to be the 80's by a landslide. Can still remember the excitement of skipping school to get Joshua Tree the day it came out, wearing my Red Rocks t-shirt whilst watching Live Aid at my girlfreinds house

  3. Looking back on this today, I vote for the 1980's. So many great live performances during that era, more than any other decade.

    The worst decade would be the 1970's.

    I know that every album and tour has contributed to who they are now but..

    Zoo TV/Achtung Baby/Zooropa - allowed them to lighten up, make fun of themselves, reinvented touring and opened up their appeal

    Popmart/Pop - showed them you can go too far and the danger of not being ready.

    These tours lead to the wonderful success and shows of the next 3 studio albums and tours.
  5. I think it's too hard to determine. On the one hand you have the 80's, when U2 grew and got to a stage where they couldn't take the (then) current band direction any further. Without the 80's there'd be no respect for what they did in the 90's. If a band started out in the 90's and their debut album was Achtung Baby and for some reason they had enough money to pull off ZooTV, it wouldn't be nearly as effective, simply because half of the whole spectacle and idea is the transition from 80's U2 to 90's U2. You can't have U2 without the 80's or the 90's, and in my opinion you can't pick!

    The topic is "U2's best decade". I guess the definition of best would have to be determined. Best music? Most success? Most growth? I say 80's and 90's are tied either way.

    Yes the 80's were incredible and without this great fundament there would not even have been a 90's for U2, but in the 90's (Achtung Baby AND Pop !) they reached a level of creativity that is not matched yet.

  7. I'd probably say that the 90's is my favourite decade. Massive fan of the three albums, absolutely adore Pop, two of the biggest tours imaginable...

    However, if I could only ever listen to a single decade for the rest of my life, I'd choose the 80's. Don't think I'd be able to go without the absolute classics of U2's catalogue.
  8. How can they ever be better than during the 360 tour. With this tour everybody is blown away. It's not a decade but thbis tour is the best they can do.
    Every decade has it's ups and downs .The 80swas amazing becuase of the outcome of all these albums. In 1991 the fabulous Achtung Baby. And now the greatest tour ever the 360.
    So Iwould say their best decades are from 1980 until now.

    even if you can find cleverness before (Unforgettable fire for instance)
    maybe 360 would have not come out without ZooTv and Popmart, but the same for the Elevation without Joshua tree tor and lovetown.
    hard to choose but with a gun over my head i say 80's counting the albums i like better
    00's, i think, are a mix of the other 2 decades


  10. im 10 years time i hope ill be able to say the 10's were the best decade the larget tour in history, SoA is a massive hit and so is the follow up album. theres nuthing stoping them from writing another Streets, just gota be lucky enough to catch lightning in a bottle for the 2nd time.
