1. As we head into 2011, I thought we should look back at the last couple of years. Specifically, in terms of achievement was 2009 or 2010 better for U2?
Both had two tour legs and two album releases (kind of - Wide Awake in Europe in 2010).
NLOTH was a critical but not a commercial success by U2 standards. No major awards.
The 2009 legs I think pretty much match the 2010 legs in terms of performances.
2010 shows were more of a greatest hits and looking ahead to the new material.
Both years were the highest grossing tour.
Rose Bowl in 2009 was the most watched live video stream in Youtube history.
I think all in all, 2009 was a touch better year for U2. Which is not to say that 2010 was bad or they are on the downslide. I'm looking forward to an excellent 2011 with a smashing album and a brilliant supporting tour.
  2. I'll pick 2010, because the guys seemed more relax and happy during the shows than in 2009. And for me, they're playing at their best then.
  3. gotta pick 2010. I feel like 2009 could have been a bit better.
  4. Definitely 2010. 2009 brought in a whole new KIND of spectacle, in terms of U2, but just because it was new doesn't mean it tops what they did with it in 2010. Instead of just getting used to it and going through the motions, they've evolved their show into something unbelievable and surprising every night.
  5. One other note, as well- I feel like if they try to TOP 2010, they'll ruin the magic. People will see they're trying too hard. I think if they stay on track, and keep surprising us at the same level in just slightly different ways, they'll keep the winning streak going.
  6. 2010.
  7. 2010 for me as well, 2009 was a bit classical, 2010 was risky.
  8. 2009 for me. All the things that hit you with a new album, combined with better shows than 2010.
  9. If I stick to 09 being only the Europe leg then i'd say it was better than this year. Can't pinpoint exactly why but it certainly isn't biased. Shows like Barcelona, Berlin and Wembley 2 are just fantastic. Couple in the US Leg which I never like then overall 2010 was better.
  10. 2010 is borderline greatest hits with the whole first 9 songs i miss the NLOTH songs opening and the whole madness of a new album. That can't be topped
  11. Back injury and the cancellation of a leg doesn't help either
  12. '09, for the album's release alone.

the injury thing didn't do any wonders for this year. still a solid one overall though.
