1. I don't think the people who invented records knew about computers. But, yes that was the point when it comes to U2's latest release. That doesn't mean it's any less of a problem with vinyl.

  2. Picture didn't work. I thought it would say owned after quoting that post, anyway. Either owned or pwned. Still, you people still think that vinyl is good? Vinyl is crap and you know it but some of you might not admit it. I'm not trolling, it's the truth.

I'm not saying it's good, I'm not saying it's crap: I'm only saying that calling 'suckers' a bunch of fans that just bought it with the longing of owning something unique (after all, the damaged vinyls and sleeves are not fans' fault) is stupid and rude. And you got owned, yes.

The damaged vinyls may not be their fault but the fans who bought this were fooled into it, you'll have to admit. At least the people who have damaged vinyls. Don't be surprised if those live versions of Mercy and Moment Of Surrender are re-released on CD or as downloads. Still, I think buying this making more sense than buying the 360 Tour Super Deluxe Box.

They'll be even bigger fools when they can put them on eBay and have them go for hundreds of dollars. I wanted one of those vinyls too. Just think if they'd bought the 360 box they would have scored a vinyl in that too. Maybe more vinyl releases need to happen of exclusive stuff; I'd buy it if I had the chance.

And if they're released on CD, at least those who want hard copies at a decent price can get them easily A lot of the time, vinyls aren't over-compressed in sound either (the main attraction to them for me) unless you're a Metallica fan, unlike a CD where the medium has been abused to all hell. 105dB for a pop song isn't right - but at least mp3gain or WAVgain exists for that kind of crap.

Why is vinyl crap? The packaging, ease of playing or the exclusive-to-vinyl tracks?

It doesn't worry me 'cos I have a record player and a way to copy them. The exclusive tracks is better because I can get those bonus tracks I want on an actual hard copy, not useless digital-only releases. They look cool as well, especially if it's a good piece of art. The only thing that puts me off is the prices, but you gotta expect that when you're getting quality over a 20c disc and two-inch paper booklet.

The things that are in the 360 Super Deluxe Box that are not on the 2 Disc DVD / Blu-Ray version of it are all unnecessary. The 7" vinyl of Soon is unnecessary because that song was on (almost) every 2009 360 Tour bootleg and the song was on YouTube for ages. 3 360 Guitar Picks are useless when you don't play guitar with picks. Getting the tour programme for a concert I didn't go to loses that special feeling of it, and it just becomes an ordinary book. There are some good things though, the hardback book in the super deluxe box is probably much cooler than the booklet in the Blu-Ray version. Having both DVD and Blu-Ray versions is cool, since that almost no one has Blu-Ray. The 360 Stage drawing and the "art prints" are nice but not worth the price of the box. I can understand collectors buying the 360 box and the Wide Awake In Europe EP because that's what they do, and there seems to be quite a lot of collectors on this site. Personally, I don't care about the merchandise, I only care about the music, the shows and what the band has to say about them.

I'm no audiophile, but I know that most CD releases these days have terrible sound quality. Trust me, you do not want to pick up a Paramore album, because their albums have the worse sound mix I've ever heard. Everything on that album is distorted when it wasn't supposed to be. But sound on a vinyl isn't all that good. Better sound than that Paramore album, but worse sound than CD's from the 80's and 90's. I think a possible CD version of Wide Awake In Europe wouldn't sound all that different to the vinyl, if it sounds different it would probably be better quality. I say this because No Line On The Horizon was produced well, unlike Atomic Bomb.

The packaging of vinyl is the coolest thing about it. The rest CD (usually) can do better.

(And I prefer vinyl to iTunes only too.)

The type of damage im reffering to seems to be that the heavyweight vinyl has ripped through the frai inner sleeve and as a result has caused curved indentations / ripps and more to the spine(s) of the outer cover. If so please let me know here. I dont know if we i / we can do anything though

That's so disappointing. It just highlights how important it is for sellers to remove the vinyl from the sleeves before shipping. Really, if you're paying a lot for records, you need to be asking the vendor to pack the vinyl separately from the album sleeves so this can't happen.

You can buy replacement paper or plastic sleeves and I'm sure I've seen some repair instructions for spine damage on album covers around the interwebs somewhere. It won't ever look like new, but it might look a little less bad.

See, now that was constructive. Thank you, Sonia.

  10. You're very welcome. I could have wanked on about the clear superiority of vinyl, but it does chafe one after a while.

  11. I've knocked off far too much of my hearing over many many years of live music to ever call myself an audiophile, but I do love vinyl.
