    In theory you are correct. But in practise the resolution (i read somewhere that they measured around 11-19 bits of resolution; CD is 16 bit) of vinyl is not so good. Anyway the mastering on most vinyls is often much better than on cd. But that has more to do with the loudness war than the medium it self.

  4. True. I posted that on page 3 for people to understand the truth better. Not just him, because I understand that he will be ignoring me but that post most clearly says how I feel about vinyl. There are possibly quite a few folks around here that say they prefer vinyl.

  8. The reason I originally pointed out (only if you're a Metallica fan), I haven't listened to it myself as yet but I've heard Death Magnetic is as bad on CD as it is vinyl.

    A question for everyone: what is the best and worst mastered albums you've ever listened to, in their non-remastered form? For me, the worst (the very worst) was probably Michael Jackson's Invincible. The best would have been Achtung Baby. Nice low volume, no clipping and sounds warm.

    So you like your music distorted and the way the musicians didn't want you to hear it? That "raw texture" you enjoy and that "crackle of dust" is distortion and it's not the how the music was intended to be heard.

    The second the music starts distorting, I take it out. You'd have no idea how disappointed I've been with so many albums bought lately. I think maybe one new one I've picked up (2008) I've been pleased with the sound quality, that it sounded dynamic, fresh, raw and just clean. That's what I like.

    I don't understand why so many albums are distorted. What are the producers doing in there?

    Wow. That's a shame because Thriller is such a well produced album. How bad did it sound?

    It would cause too many headaches for me to work out which album is mastered the best, but the worst mastered album I've listen to is Riot by Paramore. (My brother's CD).
