You might be able to pick up a set on EBay for cheaper.

Patience isn't a bad thing. You will be happier longer if you take the time, save the money and get what best works vs. what one can get 'right now'.

If you know how to install the pickups yourself then that can save you some money. Friend of mine had a set put in, in New York. I don't remember exactly what it cost her but I remember it not being too horrible a rate.

Check that list, most of them go for 200+.

And yeah I wish I knew how to do it. Problem is I don't trust myself soldering something that's worth that much money! I've had a few pickups changed over the years, it's not too too costly, just a pain is all.

  2. I just watched this video again that I watched a while back, and back then it was one of the things that made me want a rickenbacker.

That's pretty much the exact sound I'm looking for, and he's using hi-gains! Johnny Marr is a great guitarist too, he's definitely had an influence on my playing just as Edge has. They're even similar in some respects. Don't think much of Modest Mouse, but love The Smiths.

  3. Not much can go wrong. You can make a bad job and it may sound a bit dirty and raspy, but I don't think that you can damage the pick ups. It is simple enough that you can search for a wiring diagram and make it yourself. The hardest part is the soldering itself, and it is still quite simple.
  4. The Edge made a trip to Rudy's in NY...

...and is now in possession of ANOTHER 1976 Gibson Explorer. (That makes 13, if memory serves)

  5. Yep, heard that as well. Didn't know he had 13 though, pretty awesome. Here's a pic of the one he bought:
  6. +1, Matt.
  7. Maybe 13 is wrong, and maybe he only has like 3 and one of them got really messed up or something. Or maybe he played it in the store and really loved the sound of this one. Either way, I'd rather not get into that whole "does Edge use and have way too many guitars" debate again

Nope, that is at least 13.

I was at Guitar Center when Dallas bought # 11 and stated it was # 11.

Same Guitar Center had another `76 a few weeks later. It was gone soon enough and the sales dude said Edge got that one too. That would have made (at least) # 12.

And the the one from Rudy's makes (at least) # 13.

May be more if he's bought from other places that he and Dallas normally buy from.

Nope. No need to debate. I mean, come on... Edge doesn't tell us how to spend our money. Why should we tell him?
  9. I got all my ladies out for a photoshoot today, and I thought I'd post a picture here. Hope you guys like it!

    - New 2010 Rickenbacker 330/6 I just acquired, loving it loving it loving it.
    - My custom fender strat with an american neck and a warmoth body and C69 pups, this is the guitar I'd carry with me to my grave
    - Epiphone Les Paul Custom, this is the one I'll probably upgrade next
    - Art and Lutherie acoustic guitar, my "dicking around" guitar.

You sir, have some sexy guitars. That Epiphone is just epic, and that Rickenbacker is absoutely stunning. Loving the Fender too.
  11. He posted full-res pics of his blue Strat some months ago, I loved it - and the strap too

I can't see why someone would like to replace that beauty of a cream LP though
