Tell us something about yourself, who are you and what do you do for a living?
I'm 22 years old and I´m living in Slovakia in a small village. I´m a student of faculty of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering.
Sorry for my mistakes, since I never learned English at school. Everything I know I learned thanks to U2. (So it´s possible that I have an Irish accent and I don´t know about it :-D ) It started with the lyrics of the songs. I wanted to know what they are about, so I picked up the dictionary and started to translate them word by word. And after years it came to a state that I could read the whole U2byU2 book in English.
How did you become a fan of U2, tell us how it happened?
I was 13 years old and I liked to watch those hit parades going on TV. I was frustrated when the Electrical storm came to light. I was sick of this song, it won every hit parade, it was played again and again for weeks. I hated it, I hated the video and I always thought the girl had leeches on her dress. :-D I didn´t know who is this band with such an awkward name. The worst was that I couldn´t get the song out of my head and I needed to hear it again like a drug, so I recorded it on VHS tape. It was the first time when I saw the whole video and I thought to myself: „Whoa! Who is this gorgeous man traveling in train? Aaaand after all, he has an amazing voice!!!“ Then I started searching for information of this band and I tell you it was damn hard in those times without internet. Later I heard Stuck in a moment and I saw the music video and I completely fell in love with U2. This video was fascinating me. It was so heart breaking, Bono on the ground, people trample him under foot. I had a feeling I need to save him.
I realized they aren´t an usual band when I saw on TV their performance in Boston 2001. It amazed me so much to hear they are much better live than on the CD, it amazed me to see Bono running on the catwalk like mad, jumping, sweating and still singing without any troubles. I loved the contact between the band and the audience. I really felt that spirit or soul being present on the U2 concerts. Now I know it is frequently mentioned, but at that time I dind´t know it, I have read about it after years.
Where do you most prefer to listen to U2?
When I´m relaxing. I turn off the lights in my room, lie down on my couch and I enjoy every piece of this beautiful music. I prefer listening to it with earphones. I love to hear Bono´s voice in my head, I love those slow songs with quiet music (Cedars of Lebanon, One step closer, If you wear that velvet dress, Your blue room, Grace...) when all I can hear is Bono´s calm voice whispering in my ears.
But my favorite place to listen to U2 is the inner circle of the U2 concert :-)
If there would be only one U2 song you could hear the rest of your life, which one would it be?
It would be definitely the live version of In a little while from the Boston DVD. I love when Bono plays with his voice like that, you know what I mean. But I would rather shoot myself than not hear the other U2 songs anymore.
How long have you been drawing the band?
In fact I didn´t draw the whole band yet, but next time I´ll do so.
This was my first attempt to draw Bono:
