I'd pick SBS or Please.

going only for one Sunday should be the best choice

For that topic, Sunday Bloody Sunday would indeed probably be best, but please bear in mind that if there's one song students know from U2, it's probably SBS.
So perhaps it might be better picking a more hidden gem...?

Therefore my pick would be Miss Sarajevo actually. You can bring in the whole war over there, it's with the amazing Pavarotti, there were these live transmissions during ZooTV... Might have a bigger impact than a song they're maybe already bored of. But that's just my opinion of course

Good idea, but honestly you would be surprised at the amount of kids who don't know U2. I'm not sure I'd be comfortable enough to say that half the class would even know Sunday Bloody Sunday.

You're right. But even now these kids were only 11 or 12 when Vertigo was released. They may actually recognize Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own actually because it was featured on the show The O.C. which remains popular amongst young people even though it's been off for four years now.

I have the day off today so I'm going to check out all the versions of Sunday Bloody Sunday and try to make a decision.

Oh ok, I just spoke from my own experience. A teacher told us about the song Sunday Bloody Sunday when I was 14 and 75% of the class went "oh god really, I already KNOW that. Is that REALLY the only song these guys have ?".
But it might be different in the USA of course.

Peace and Security? Tough shout. I think Peace on Earth would be a good shout.

I feel your 'pain', so to speak; I'm using U2 as the basis of my dissertation looking at the construction, mediation and consumption of popular culture, and mainly focusing on the way in which U2 have used songs to promote causes etc. over the year - I went with Sunday Bloody Sunday for the moment, halfway through but have 5 weeks to finish the bloody thing...

I haven't taught the class yet but I decided to go with "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and I am going with the performance from the Rose Bowl. There is an article in the their textbook talks about a man from Iran who's father was put in jail for fighting for democracy and wanted his country to be free like Canada (it is only a story but still). So I ten decided to talk a little bit about the election protests they had in Iran to show that this stuff is very real and at the beginning of the performance Bono says something along the lines of "we sing for those who have peace and for those who don't" or something. I'll let you guys know how this goes.
