    Top 5 albums

    1. Joshua Tree
    2. How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb
    3. The Unforgettable Fire
    4. Pop

I agree. I really like that album. I think it's #5 for me.
  2. 1. No Line On The Horizon - 7/10
    2. Magnificent - 5/10
    3. Moment of Surrender - 10/10
    4. Unknown Caller - 6/10
    5. I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Crazy Tonight - 9/10
    6. Get On Your Boots - 6/10
    7. Stand Up Comedy - 7/10

overall a decent enough album; no bad tracks as such but it's not aged as well as i;d have hoped.

If he wants to be honest, he would say "We will make album and if it wouldn't be in top 5 and at least one top hit, we failed"... because that is the way it is...

I don't know if we can excuse their lack of adventurousness on their age, tempting as that might be. Compare them to someone like Nick Cave, who's still inventing and pushing boundaries at 53. Art is complex and success is not always good for it.

I don't want to excuse them, but I take it as it is... What we can do? Not buing their records? Not going to their concert?

Well, if they're not producing new work you enjoy, why would you buy it? Really, we can speculate all we like on why and what, but that's all it'll ever be - speculation - it's not like we can change the band's output or behaviour. And they don't owe us anything.

It's hard not to buy it... even if it's still better than the rest of music these days. I enjoyed NLOTH, but I'd like them as they were all the time: progressive rock band who is directing new trends in rock music. But since Pop they go in common ways and we hear what was here before. I don't mind if they do things like Soon... it sounded very promising and Stingray Guitar was good too (why not some instrumental songs? ). So we will se what will follow.
  7. I love NLOTH. I really do. That said, after listening to it for a couple years, I find it sort of disjointed. I no longer listen to it all the way through. Usually, it's the opposite with U2 albums ... I start listening to a song here and a song there, come to appreciate the whole album over time and end up listening to it all the way through.

Here's my 2 cents on songs:

    1. No Line On The Horizon - 9/10 (Love it as an opener, wish they could make it rock live)
    2. Magnificent - 7/10 (Used to love it ... has aged more like milk than wine for me)
    3. Moment of Surrender - 7/10 (I like it, but I have to be in the mood for it)
    4. Unknown Caller - 8/10 (Has aged well for me)
    5. I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Crazy Tonight - 5/10 (There's a great song in there somewhere, but the album version doesn't get there ... or even close to there)
    6. Get On Your Boots - 3/10 (Didn't like it early on, don't like it now ... it bores me)
    7. Stand Up Comedy - 3/10 (Ugh)
    8. Fez-Being Born - 10/10 (My fav on NLOTH, and it would make the greatest live opener ... the instrumental and then Bono coming in on the Oh-Oooooh ... never happen, but I can keep wishing)
    9. White As Snow - 4/10 (Not a good fit on this album (or any other))
    10. Breathe - 7/10 (Liked it as an opener ... new appreciation after seeing it live)
    11. Cedars Of Lebanon - 8/10 (Still growing on me ... great closing song that hits you over time)

On the whole, I guess the highs are high and the lows are low. Just finished U2 by U2 and now I'm dying for the NLOTH addendum to get the back story. I think it might explain some things.
  8. Sometimes I wonder if people hate on I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight, Get On Your Boots and Stand Up Comedy so much because it's the "music expert" or "cool" thing to do...

Taste is subjective, obviously. I'm neither a music expert nor cool (or aiming to be). I think most people hate on these tracks cause they kind of suck, but that's just my opinion.

I like Boots and Crazy, but they have nothing to do on this album. It's kinda like Do You Feel Loved would suddenly appear between I Still Haven't Found and With or Without You. Ruins the vibe.
