you people are out of touch, sure everyone is entitled to their opinion but how many of you post your opinion just to post something rather than take a moment to think first. its not playing just the greatest hits that is important and exciting here, its playing them to the hilt...shine like stars/love will tare us apart, the goal is soul, coexist, creep and tons of snippets to create a feeling in the night. I won't be watcing it for me, as you said i've seen and heard it all before. But i will be watching for the guys - Bono, Adam, Larry and The Edge - to see what they can do, and also I don't believe any other bands greatest hits can have such a resonnance with a crowd(other than the stones but do the math - 3 original stones still tour, all 4 U2 members-its not even close), in a big venue its the hits of U2 that can reach every person, not just because they know of the songs but because its like those songs were made for moments like this...not songs like eletrical storm or window in the skies or acrobat or anything off pop...IMHO. Gosh i am sooooooo f-ing excited, thats it I'm calling it = This IS the most anticipated rock concert of the century(again anything under 16 songs will fall short for me)...I can't wait to find out if it will be the most talked about once it is over...and what will be said-can yyou imagine a few hundred thousand people just milling around for the next 2 days of the fest in shock of the U2 set-
    - seriously can any other band in the world carry this much weight and still be able to not just deliver but potentially blow expectations out of the water! My favorite quote at the bottom of the site page "Live is where we live"-Larry

    practice what you preach, brother.

  3. I'm with you.

  4. i did, I'm very proud of my previous post. Passion, foresight, expectation, personal flavor, and one hell of a message to U2 and its fans to GET EXCITED!!!!!! Was it the practice or the preaching that you had trouble with? - brother.
    - also i might be a little too hyped up on this announcement, but i made a decision that For The First Time, since maybe radiohead was about to release kid A, i have decided to let my hopes and expectations run wild about this moment in music...sorry for all the gushing in this thread..

It doesn't matter whether they're playing greatest hits or not, all that matter is that they're great music.

The set is almost a full greatest hits set anyway.

that's fine but stop speaking like your opinion is the only one that matters and anyone who doesn't share your thoughts and views must be mad... it's quite irritating

Well said.....as far as Glastonbury,I think we will all have a very good idea of what tunes the band will perform. As for the odd tune, or rare song, once the shows in Mexico and USA commence anything new,or dusted off from their back catalog will be road tested first, IMO.Then considered for Glastonbury.I expect the hits,yes.U2,like most bands, play alot of their popular songs each night.IWF,NYD,SBS,Pride,WOWY,Streets,ISHFWILF,MW,One,BD,COBL,Vertigo,GOYB,Magnificent,MOS,Glastonbury,North Star.Thats 17.Is this my dream setlist??..God no.I would want moslty early (Boy) to mid 80s (UF) songs, but that will not happen.I would love to hear Bad and AIWIY.As I mentioned, they might first try some different tunes in Mexico and the USA. Any band that play festivals(Radiohead,Bruce,Pearl Jam,Muse etc) play a handful of hits or at least known tunes in their set.Obviously, this festival isnt going to be all U2 fans, the show was soldout before they were announced as the headliner, and the band know this of course. They dont want a portion of the fans there, looking around thinking "what song is this"??.U2 will want to prove themselves to these people, the nay sayers, the ones that think they are "has beens" and such.Of course they arent IMO, and DONT HAVE TO PROVE ANYTHING.I mentioned in an earlier post, having Noel Gallagher come out and join the band for a tune during the encore (maybe a Beatles tune ???) would be classic IMO.Im confident that Bono and the boys will play a great set.All eyes will be upon them that weekend.
  10. I think that this is sounding weird... because the set alredy has many hits... what hit is not being played? BTBS? and does this mean less 2000´s stuff and maybe older hits? No IALW and Out of Control in?

Of the really big hits Desire, Angel Of Harlem, All I Want Is You, Even Better Than Real Thing, Discotheque, The Sweetest Thing and Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own haven't been played or are not a part of the regular set. Yes, this means less 2000's stuff.
  12. I never knew U2 had played The Sweestest Thing live, i just youtubed it then, Bono plays the piano and just when i thought i knew everything about the band. i rekon it would be a good choice for glastonbury, could even get chris martin or matt bellamy on the piano. Matt would be able to hit the high notes
