    I liked MOS, but as soon as everybody started hyping it up and saying it was the best thing since One, I started listening to it more.     In fact, the only songs off of NLOTH I do listen to are Unknown Caller (even this one is getting tiresome), Cedars of Lebanon, and of course, the album's holy grail and glimpse of something better, Fez- Being Born. I wish NLOTH as an album had more songs like Fez, more songs worthy of being U2 songs.

Wow 2 years ,,its gone quick and for me its my favorite album from the past 10 years as i like u2 when there daring,,dont get me wrong i like ATYCLB and HTDAB but there a little radio friendly for me but saying that i have the track list set as per the film as i find it so much better than the cd track list,i find i skip tracks if i play the cd.

    I used to hate the lyrics and chorus of Moment Of Surrender when it first came out, but now it's one of my all time favourite U2 songs.
  4. 1. No Line On The Horizon - 9.5/10

    2. Magnificent - 10/10 great song.
    3. Moment of Surrender - 7/10...like it much better now...but the true "Stand Up Comedy" of the album was hearing Eno saying it was his "Greatest moment in his career." Wow...the song will never be that good.
    4. Unknown Caller - Music 9/10, Vocals 2/10. The Oh Oh chorus and the Reboot Yourself lyrics taint Edge's great guitar playing. I can't listen to this one very often. Worst song on the album for me.
    5. I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Crazy Tonight - 8.5/10...if it wasn't "Walk On's weaker cousin."
    6. Get On Your Boots - 8/10...too much like Vertigo, but still good.
    7. Stand Up Comedy - 7.5/10...decent song, but a bit ordinary
    8. Fez-Being Born - Fez: 0/10, Being Born 9.3/10...for an album that was supposed to be all this new groundbreaking stuff, this was one of the few tracks that didn't sound like stuff from their past.
    9. White As Snow - 6/10...ok, but a skip for me.
    10. Breathe - 9.9/10, a great opener...not all that original, but I love the song. Hard to believe that they kept the Crazy Remix in the set and dumped this and TUF.
    11. Cedars Of Lebanon - 7.8/10...borderline good, can't put my finger on it, but missing something.

    Should've been on the album category:
    Soon 9.9/10...Again, all the talk about how original and groundbreaking the album was...and this is about the only real different sounding thing...and they left it off.

    Winter 8/10...the music is 9/10, vocal 8/10, and the lryics 5/10. Nice song, but Bono is above the lyrics in this one. The only reason to put the beyond horrible Linear DVD in my player. I could get on a bicycle, ride around, and have someone video it, and put the NLOTH music on in the background, and it would be about the same quality. I'd at least make it a little funny. Having some guy ride his motorcycle around doing nothing had to be a huge waste of film.

  8. It's really interesting to see a complete variety of opinions in this thread, not just on the album as a whole, but on individual songs.

    The more I listened to HTDAAB the more I got bored, so for me NLOTH being more 'experimental' as it was touted really excited me.

    I still think the band were trying to push themselves creatively on this album. Obviously Fez/Being Born being the most prominent of examples on this count, but if you take UC, Cedars and MOS as well you can see a complete change in the type of song from the previous album.

    I also think Bono is trying to cope with his ageing voice in different ways. Breathe is a good example of how he can still belt out a chorus, and I like the almost rap-like quality of the verses, but NLOTH and MOS show how he is really changing his tone to try to make his vocal performance good.

    Overall I really like the album still

    OK, I admit I usually skip a track or two between songs 5-7.

    1. Boots is a problematic little gem. I would have loved to hear it as an album track only, just as I love it live. But it sucks as a single, and definitely as the first single. The band wanted it to be a new Vertigo/Fly, but it ended up s a new Discotheque/Numb. So they didn´t gain any new fans with this, and probably lost the interest of many old listeners. Boots is one of the main reasons why the album sold so poorly.
    Magnificent would have been the natural first single. Though not in the same classic class as Beautiful Day or Vertigo, it would have done what it was meant to do as the signature song for the album.
    2. The sequence Crazy/Boots/Comedy is boring and skipped by most. But taken one by one the songs are OK and actually fits the albums overall feel. So the album would have benefited from another song order. And as the beautiful and mildly weird Soon was recorded and finished with the rest of the tracks, they could have given us that track as the closing number 12.

    I really love listening to the whole album in this order:
    1. Magnificent
    2. No Line On The Horizon
    3. Stand Up Comedy
    4. Cedars of Lebanon
    5. Get On Your Boots
    6. Moment of Surrender
    7. FEZ-Being Born
    8. White As Snow
    9. Breathe
    10. I´ll Go Crazy If I Don´t Go Crazy Tonight
    11. Unknown Caller
    12. Soon

    NLOTH is a different album. Eno/Lanois have made the sound much warmer and richer than on ATYCLB, and so many songs are more experimental than on HTDAAB. It´s an album where the band often enjoys being musicians making music for the joy of it. It´s a good album, really good. It deserves a better destiny than being forgotten as U2´s failure of the ´00s.
