Just want to send my thoughts and prayers to those affected by the terrible events taking place in North East Japan. Anyone else who would like to leave their thoughts also feel free to do so here.
Really, really horrible. I can only imagine what kind of magnitude the quake must have had to topple the japanese "safety"-system. We're talking about the country that's number one in the world on building houses that can withstand earthquakes.
As I understand it, those reactors won't explode when overheated, but it could be a second Chernobyl-like disaster in store awful. Just awful. Really strikes home how helpless we are in the face of nature. What I really hate are all these eschatological theories come rushing out, be they religious-based or otherwise, claiming the tsunami's part of the end of the world process, e.g. 2012 or suchlike. For one, even if it is, what the fuck can we do about that - if the world's going to end, it's going to end and we can do sod all about it so we might as well carry on doing what we do. Secondly, it's positively disgusting to have such people coming about saying that the people of Japan are suffering because of the ills of the world and all that - why not try and do something of worth, to actually help them? If not, sit down and shut up. Sorry for the mini-rant, but such stuff really gets to me.
Thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Japan - they need all the support they can get.
What a terrible thing. Yesterday morning I saw some brutal live images of a high building being completely drowned by a 10 meters wave. I haven't watched that footage again, I suppose it was too harsh to be shown all around the world, but it gave me an idea of how terrible this earthquake and tsunami have been. And it all gets worse with the nuclear danger too Best wishes to all Japanese people and to whomever has been hit in any way or another by this stuff. Get better soon!
A most unfortunate disaster of nature. Nothing can be done to prevent ol' mother nature, but we can sure as hell send our hope and support to those affected.
I hear about 600 or 700, but I guess this number will be much bigger since they're thousands of missing people
Hope they can fix the nuclear problme soon, and I also hope they can rescue the biggest number of people that are in dangerous areas.
Finally, I'd like to say that with all the technology and internet, it's possible to feel like you're there in Japan. The same happened in 9/11 and in the 2004 tsunami, and it's amazing the quantity of images and information we have. We can cleary see the size of the distruction and power of those things.
May all the death, his friends and families can receive peace and comfort in this terrible moment.
I just read that there are about 10000 deads until now, but this could be more because whole citys have been pushed away by the waves. What a huge dissaster, the nature really is unbelievble strong
