1. Just been listening to loads of UF bootlegs lately and came to the conclusion that 11OCTT isnt the song that shouldve opened but maybe Bad or Wire?
What are you guys opinion on this,i love 11OCTT but maybe shouldve been played mid-set.
  2. Good topic.

I could not disagree more with "Bad" opening a show- respectfully disagree, just...to a great extent I agree though, that 11 O'Clock was not the best choice...I think they should have gone with something new. I sort of like the idea of the house lights going out, the crowd getting pumped, and then with the band on stage, they slowly fade up again to "A Sort of Homecoming". It's the only other thing from that time period that was relatively untried that I think would have worked for them.

Out of Control really worked best for them on the War Tour...shame they couldn't duplicate that opening-awesomeness the next time around. Wire would have been okay, I suppose...but I think even something like MLK, slowly burning into TUF would even work. Though that also really worked well in the middle of the set, so why move it...

Could have gone a lot of different ways, I like this topic.
  3. Wow, opened just as I'm listening to a UF bootleg.
I'm currently listening to 1984-10-18 - Lyon, the first gig of the European leg, and MLK opened it, followed by The Unforgettable Fire. In my opinion, it didn't work at all.

As you said in the opening post, kezman, Wire as a possibility of opening a UF bootleg. Well it did open one show, 1984-09-17 - Melbourne. Killer show that is, and I advise that you download it and listen to it.

In my opinion, I don't think any UF song should have opened. I'm thinking Gloria should have opened. 11 O' Clock Tick Tock isn't really an opening song to me, and I think Gloria would suit much better. I think 11 O' Clock Tick Tock would've been better after Gloria.
  4. I'll go for Pride then Out of Control, followed by anther fast tempo song, not giving the crowd enough time to breath. The best gigs i've heard have generally started like that.

  5. Probably for good reason then. I'm actually a big fan of them opening shows with songs from the album they're supporting (the biggest reason I hate BD right now)...and going through the album, it honestly seems like Pride is the most suitable choice. They really almost didn't have that option then though, you sort of HAVE to save that for later on when it's probably your second biggest hit (behind SBS, at the time anyway).
  6. I personally think the best choice, if they were to start with a UF song, would be Wire. They tried it once, and it worked better than I thought it would.

Yeah i agree with that, i was kinda using the Vertigo Tour 2nd leg framework of 3 or 4 fast songs to start off, but as you say they didn't have the hits in which to do that

It just seems like such the perfect "second song"...sort of like BD to Elevation back in 01.
  9. While listening to the Lyon show at the moment, I've just thought it would definitely be better if Gloria started the show and 11 O' Clock Tick Tock was put in the encore where Gloria had been played in the UF Tour. So basically what is happening is that Gloria and 11 O' Clock Tick Tock are swapping positions.

    Works for me.
