i saw 3 joshua tree gigs and only heard streets once!!!!. they started cardiff with stand by me and it went down a storm. personally back then i don't think they knew the power of streets. i didn't hear streets until my 3rd show at the NEC, (now the lg arena). the side stand was literally rocking as everyone jumped.

And true, perhaps they didn't really know how big of a song it was. Seems mighty hard to believe now, but I suppose its a possibility.
  2. they struggled to get it right for the album with brian eno threatening to delete it. i just feel it it was a bit of a misfit back then. but now, what a mighty oak has grown from that little acorn.

I think it's got worse the older its got
  4. It was at its peak during the Elevation Tour
  5. i agree with the elevation tour having the best streets by a mile.
  6. Bono's voice was a goner on the Elevation Tour. That helps for some songs though. They got the visuals for Streets just right on Elevation.
  7. I honestly believe some of the Vertigo Tour versions were stellar, though my all time favorites are split between Elevation and ZooTV.

  8. Streets Live loses a lot without that big cheer when the flash happens. There was no flash on Vertigo. I do like the Twickenham version and love the Cardiff version. . . ''and then siiiiing, with tears in my eyes, with tears in my eyes''
  9. The reason the Vertigo ones do a lot for me is because more often than not, The Edge's guitar in the intro was just SO crisp and defined. Especially on 360, Streets seems to just sort of fade in. If you listen to 2005-04-28 Vancouver, and check the transition from Pride into Streets, you'll see exactly what I mean. It has such a punch, and the trickle of the delay is so clear it actually gives me goosebumps (that version in particular).

Edge of course goes on the fuck up part of the verse, go figure, but the intro gets me more lost in Streets than even the best performances from their prime.
  10. I used to like the intro tone Edge used on Vertigo (you can hear it specifically on the Buenos Aires broadcast). I'm not musically versed enough to explain why I liked it but I thought it sounded great. Now though i'm not keen on it. I prefer a cleaner sounding note like he used for JT and Zoo.

It's not the consistent big hitting hilight it used to be though. That song could have saved any show but nowdays it's just another Pride or SBS to me. The album version still weakens my knees though.
  11. Zoo TV versions were great, I didnt like the Popmart versions, The Elevations ones were the best , the Vertigo ones werent good imo, and the ones from 360 are good to.

    But this one rules:

Saves 360, as far as I'm concerned. Walk On and One are just boring, especially Walk On...but Streets gets the place really excited and the crowd's energy seems to save the band. Especially with that cigar flash.

I'll have to check out the Buenos Aires broadcast again to listen to Streets. I've switched computers since I downloaded that show so I'll have to re-DL, but it'll be worth it.
