I have never had a better show experience in my life. U2 was in a league all its own, for it being the first time ever seeing the legends, them being my favorite band, the stage being a spectacle to just LOOK at, them playing UTEOTW....the list goes on. But as far as every other concert I have ever been to- this set the standard. There were no elements to impress you other than the music- the boys rocked harder and neater than ever, playing much tighter than I've ever seen or heard on any bootleg. The lights were ordinary and plain, but kicked ASS and suited the music all the same. This show was based on in-your-face rock n' roll, and on nothing more. As my roommate, who attended the show with me said, "You would expect them to put on a very cool, mellow show, especially based on parts of that setlist...but they did the exact opposite. Even the mellow ones were melting my face off"

I was hoping Radioactive and Crawl would be in the opposite positions they were performed, but when Caleb walked out and slid into that song, and the arena was immediately jumping to the beat, hands in the air, chanting as if it were a prayer, "Just drink the water where you came from"...I knew we were in for something special.

The sheer intensity of the slower-burning tunes like Back Down South and Fans (which, when played back to back, managed to have the entire arena swaying in unison, singing along with every word, booming the lyrics through the echo of the arena) were so well played and so well received that it was impossible not to be throwing fists up in the air and uniting with the music.

Songs like Pistol of Fire (WHERE DID THAT COME FROM?!?), the return of Taper Jean Girl (Finally...) and No Money had everyone jumping up and down, shaking the arena from wall to wall, dancing like maniacs and breathing fire...and the thousands upon thousands of people yelling "A-HA....SHA-HAKE" to TJG was amazing to say the least.

Then there was the power-pack of Mary/The Immortals/Notion...we had a girl named Mary in our group that went with us, so (even though we were in the stands) we surrounded her and serenaded her as we all took her hands and pulled them toward the sky with our own, our heads swaying around hers like a barbershop quartet's. The Immortals managed to break my roommate down into tears- he's the tough-guy type who doesn't get emotional over anything, and although enjoys concerts, he HATES crowds...and yet he sang every word, practically worshiped the music, and when the bottom dropped out in the chorus, we fell down to our knees together and screamed, "Spill out on streets of stars...ride away."

The band went into "Pickup Truck" the exact moment I shouted "PYRO!!!", in hopes that it was what we were about to hear. I was wrong, and I was glad. (Pyro remained absent all night- oh well. Pickup Truck was stellar)....PT is among my favorite Kings of Leon songs from the last two albums, and I was not expecting it at all. Through my shock and the tease of tears that were brewing behind my eyes, I managed to hear my roommate yelling into my ear..."Look at the screen! Look at Caleb!"

    I looked...nothing. I shrugged.

    "He's crying"

Sure enough, I looked back up, and tears were streaming out of Caleb's eyes as he belted the chorus. Consistent, beautiful, emotional tears behind the power of the music, driving it home.

Closer was packed with lasers that scanned the stage and Sex on Fire, as per usual, had the arena howling. Black Thumbnail acted more as a closer for the stage, not the band- the band were simply partying at that point. Caleb and Matthew tossed their hair around while Jared swung his bass out, and Nathan headbanged to the beat. Fireworks went off at the end, raining down from the ceiling and fire shooting up from the floor as they tossed souveniers into the crowd and called it a night.

This weekend was perhaps one of the best of my entire life. 16 hours worth of road-trip shared with some of my best friends, singing along to music in the car, stopping at strange places along the highway to goof around, eating on Beale St. in Memphis...nothing could have possibly been any better, and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

Not even a pair of U2 tickets
  3. Sounds like fun. I've seen them once and that was plenty. Slane is a no go with those setlists. They'd be great either way but the motivation is gone for me..
  4. Wow. That was very in depth. On Call and Knocked Up back to back I still think was brilliant and I thought the light show was pretty good, especially with the lasers!
  5. Wow, thats a review . Good the hear that you had an amazing time there and your right about Pickup Truck its on their best songs, and definitely the best from the last album.

There's a Sheffield broadcast from December '10 that I particularly love, also search for an audio rip of their Live at the O2 DVD. I like that one as well.
  10. I'm embarrassed to say that I haven't really listened to these guys.

Can anyone recommend a 10- to 12-song "best of..." Although I'd like to know personal favourites, a somewhat objective list would be appreciated....should I just get their singles?
