In February, I had 4 exams in 4 days, then an exam two days after and suffered from stress and fatigue. That inevitably set me up to end up failing an exam. Lucky the exam wasn't entirely important. These ones that are coming up are.

How many exams do you have during that week?

  2. From Friday 13th - Wednesday 18th, I have 3. Until the 31st, I have no exams, which is decent.

  3. Society, Culture and Media studies, i.e. cultural studies, media studies, politics, virtually half of the Arts & Humanities spectrum. So good, but it's been tough this year. Did my dissertation on U2 though! So 'twas a bonus

    Where's everyone else at, study-wise?

  4. I knew that I'm starting to learn the names here

Yes, you were close, the names are almost the same, they have the same meaning. Olaf is a more ancient nordic spelling and less modern today. But my name is a very old ancient nordic name

That sounds similar to the path I want to go down.

I'm about to enter my last year of high school

Sounds good, lots of stuff in it. What did you write about U2?
Studywise, I'm fecked as usual. Need to start once these aches and pains go away.
  7. I'm in eight grade here in Sweden (we have nine), then I don't know what I'll choose, will probably be science in some way...

I'm having it way too easy with school, probably the best grades in my year in my school ("competing" against maybe 50 other kids), and I do very little studying. I just learn "way too" easily Sometimes that makes you feel like an ass when others study a lot and you beat everyone.

  8. It is quality mate, would highly recommend it when the time comes - I would give UEA a shout-out but bearing in mind your being in Scotland, so a) you'll get it FAR cheaper (strangely enough) and b) nowhere near the travelling required, I'll just say it's been 3 top years and well worth every minute. Uni. education and life in general has been fantastic.

Aha, fair dues, where you at in terms of like, 6th form or uni.?

I wrote my dissertation on how media content can be reappropriated and meanings twisted by both the producers of such material and the consumers, i.e. the main example I focused on was the reappropriation of music by the band that makes it and the fans that listen to it (for the main part). I used Sunday Bloody Sunday as my main example, looking at the history of the song, what the band felt it meant and how they've reinvented its use over the years, pointing to key periods such as the War period with the white flags and whatnot, the JT years with the Remembrance Day rant etc. I also referred to the Chinese artist Cui Jian (who I'd recommend checking out, really interesting music he's got going) briefly as an example of how rock music and its political uses have spread outside of Western culture to across the world. Also paid brief attention to other U2 material, Mothers of the Disappeared springs to mind as one I focused on, can't remember what else lol. Really interesting to actually have a chance to pick apart it.

I also looked at fan reactions, positive and negative, was going to check out responses here but in the time I had and what would have been needed, it wasn't feasible, so I ended up looking at responses on the official U2 site and u2gigs.com because they were already there.

Waiting for a lot of marks from work I handed in at the end of last semester, inc. the diss., so I'm nervous for that but can't afford to be distracted because of the damned exam on the 10th lol! That said, I'm still going out on Saturday night so I've not lost my sense of fun

You're only 'an ass' if you rub it in people's faces bud don't begrudge yourself the gifts you get - I miss the days when I learnt things easily lol! The older you get, the more you learn to value and appreciate the things that make your life that little bit easier, and if you can use it to help others, all the better

It gets hard when people first bring it up and ask, and then get angry when I tell the truth. There's one girl who's like that... I've learned how to avoid those attacks though
  10. That's a lengthy post dude That dissertation sounds really interesting, something that you sound like you found easy to make points on. Really nice topic man

I'm just finishing my second last year in secondary school so not in Uni til September next year (hopefully) to study music/music tech.

Yeah, definitely considering university. It's a bit early so say "I'm definitely going to university" but I hope it will happen. I will be going at about the same time as Joe is - September 2012.

Ha, that is a good point, yeah. Will get it cheaper. If I ended up going to UEA (which is Norwich, correct?), I would end up getting homesick, and it's quite a journey. I'm thinking about Stirling University to study Journalism actually

  12. G'night! Need to get some sleep before that test... 8 hours would do me good after sleeping under 6 for a lot of nights in a row.
