1. it's always a Rock show and it needs crowd support to reach the best .. also in dvd.
watch a dvd with audio in iem/soundboard without the audience part .. it's not the same at all.

anyway there has been shows great in performance and in audience .. the two things often goes together

Slane is wonderful in every part of it
  2. I couldnt care less if there are no more live cd releases, with the bootlegs the fans make up we have everything we possibly need

I agree the audience play a huge part in certain performances, although i love all the dvd releases.

A crowd that is singing and jumping in unison is far more likely to inspire the band to the kind of performance you'd want to see on a dvd than an audience that is sitting in their chairs enjoying a beer. This has been part of the problem with the last two dvd's in particular - the stale performances have come hand in hand with quiet crowds.

Not blaming the audience totally - the timing was very poor on the band's (or their management's part) for the Rose Bowl.

Also the point of a concert DVD is surely to replicate a concert experience in your own living room, is it not? Can you not just watch Letterman if you want to see the band performing live in the other case?

Btw are you really saying that the Slane crowd was only as good as the crowd from Boston - Streets anyone

Yes.I do..I listen to the audio from Boston alot more than Slane.I prefer arena shows over stadiums anyday.Bad/Streets from Boston are simply amazing.I love the passion there.BTBS is brilliant as well. The anger from Bono,as hes screaming Chapman Mark Chapman Mark Chapman !!!!! Is fantastic. Its much better than Slanes version,IMO.As far as the Boston dvd,WOWY is very moving. The girl onstage,as she lies down and sings word for word with Bono is a great moment.
The Slane gig is great. No question. But,why was it released 2 years later ? Like an afterthought.
Slane had more than double, maybe triple the audience compared to Boston.
Just because fans are louder than others, doesnt make them better.
As i said.I have been to Barcelona many times. The show is saw in 2000 (PJ) was no question, great.
But the fans seemed more into themselves, then the show.A large portion of the fans were making a spectacle of themselves.Wanting to be noticed by everyone. The show, was secondary. The guy running around like a lunatic with a Spanish flag, seemed emotionally disturbed to me.Hopping up and down, with your back to the stage, like a human pogo stick, sreaming louder than the band, drowning out the music, that means your into the show more than me ??
Maybe Im showing my age now (44).But,for me,Im there for the bands performance. To HEAR the band, and watch them.Have a few beers, and watch and listen..intently.If the crowd is loud, yes, that adds to the show. But I dont think the last 2 releases "suck" because they were filmed in "America".I blast the audio from the Boston show,as well as Notre Dame, and of course,10.25.01 NYC, way more than Slane.
The question is this..why have the BAND and its management, continue to film so many shows here??

  4. Money

  5. Great post.Im driving up from NY to see the band in Montreal both nights.Im sure the fans will be great.Pearl Jam are playin a short Canadian tour in September.Ilwill be attending a few shows,no question,as I did in 2005.I was lucky enough to see Pearl Jam in Toronto,09.19.05...Bono walked out onstage,I almost shit my fucking pants.RITFW was fantastic, and that is THE PJ show for me,seeing 2 great singers...amazing.
And yes,the fans in Toronto, and Montreal were great.I enjoyed myself there.Beautiful country as well.....

  6. Ok,but what if the band released a DVD from the London shows,2009 instead of the Rose Bowl ??
Are you saying the DVD from the Rose Bowl would sell more than a European DVD ?
U2 can afford to do anything, and film anywhere.....
  7. just my supposition .. i think a US show is more attractive for the US market and this is the most influence one .. luckly or not.
so yes it's a possibility that a rose bowl dvd has more chance selling more there than London or wherever.
i don't think it's a case that the 3 last main tour dvds are from a US gig.

  8. nothing but the truth, but in the latest years they are following the market (mainly US). years ago they used to make the market following them

  9. I really wish they had filmed the shows in the south america or mexico, - the performances there are always great and atmospheric each tour, yet still no DVD.

If they do another (which I hope) they must do it where the crowds are big and the atmosphere hungry for U2. Rose Bowl was OK.. but it was lacking in what their other shows produced beforehand. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed Rose Bowl but it was no Slane Castle, Sydney or Mexico City like their other tour DVDs but was infinitely better than Chicago for other reasons.

I agree, but the band did release U23D,which was filmed in South America. That film should have been longer.I enjoyed it and I wish they would release it.

I'm hoping the audio for that movie ends up as one those gifts from u2.com - with a few more songs, of course.

    Greed is good.
  12. they are coming back to north america, they wont film anything in usa. who knows u2 dvd in canada. the shows in 360 were almost the same, just two or tree special musics. bono in brazil made his thanks to universal here again in the same spot. he almost talked about youtube i believe. we don't need another dvd only if a u2lover want to see in proshot the new bono presley's style in leather. i want a action figure of the claw desk luminaire.
