1. I listened to the whole thing, here's what I think of it :

    - NY Debut (5/10) : a nice instrumental piece, and it's definitely related to the Spiderman theme. There are cool riffs, but I'm not fond of the whole track. It's a bit "too much" in my opinion.
    - Boy Falls From the Sky (8/10) : I was curious to listen to this studio version. I'm kind of disappointed, since I'm a big big big fan of the version played in Coimbra, but it reamins good. It's catchy, Reeve sounds good (or at least better than he used to when he sang it live a while ago). I love the calm intro and the powerful ending ; and the song is globally awesome. However, compared to the Coimbra version, it sounds like a demo, whereas it must have been reworked and all. It sounds kind of messy.
    - Rise Above 1 (8/10) : No surprises here, I think it really works. The chorus is catchy, I love Bono voice here. Lyrics aren't that bad, the idea of the duet is good. My only regret is that Edge is only audible during the last minute or so.
    - Picture This (3/10) :This is definitely a U2 song, but it sounds like a twelve years old song. This is so ATYCLB-like and I find it boring. The girl on it sounds good though. Not fond of it at all.
    - I Just Can't Walk Away (6/10) : A nice duet. I definitely love the girl's (Teresa Victoria Carpio) voice. However, this is kind of classic, nothing's really original on it.
    - Bouncing Off The Walls (7/10) : HTDAAB, get out of here! A powerful rock song. Guitar riffs are awesome, I like the chorus (although they must not have looked for lyrics for it for hours...). The little drum solo at the end of the bridge is lovely, I wish it was longer.
    - Pull The Trigger (4/10) : I'm not keen on that kind of songs AT ALL. This sounds too brutal, but it does not sound natural (I don't know how to explain it). The only things I like here are the chorus, and the awesome Edge's solo coming to save the song.
    - No More (8/10) : It's the same category of song as I Just Can't Walk Away, but there is something more in this one. It's a bit more rocky, and I love the strings. This is really great.
    - DIY World (3/10) : I wanted to skip it at the beginning. If Bono wrote these lyrics, it's even worse than the "Mole digging in a hole digging up my soul". The chorus is kind of good, thanks to the many vocal parts put altogether. But the song as a whole does not sound good at all, imo.
    - If The World Shound End (8/10) : The voice of Teresa Victoria is emphasized here. The song might be a bit too calm, but it's a good ballad that reminds me of White as Snow. Good point.
    - Sinisterio (6/10) : This is weird, but it sounds like something from Passengers in some way. The most original track from the album, I don't really know what to think about it.
    - A Freak Like Me Needs Company (4/10) : This is even weirder. It sounds like an R'n'B song, but that does not really work for me. It's a confusing song, but in a more negative note than Sinisterio.
    - Rise Above 2 (8/10) : It sounds more dramatic than the first version of the song with Bono. I'm definitely in love with the girl's voice. It's less catchy, but musically better in my opinion. All in all, I love them both.
    - Turn Off The Dark (6/10) : A nice closing song, love the music on it. It becomes a bit boring though, and it's a bit too long.

    ==> Average rate : 6/10

To conclude, this is very irregular. I love some songs (Rise Above, BFFTS, the duets between Reeve and Teresa Victoria) but other sounds like they were done in a few minutes. I was afraid about the singers, but I have to admit they sound good.

Thanks, nice post! I actually quite like Picture This. It could be realized better, but I think it has some fresh ideas.

I'm also a big fan of the Coimbra version of BFFTS. It's hard to imitate Bono!

Picture This is the same type of song as Wild Honey for me. Maybe some fresh ideas, but put altogether they do not work well in my opinion...
  4. I'm not sure it's 100% fair to judge the lyrics without having seen the play. This is a musical after all, there is bound to be some cheese!
  5. Im loving Rise Above 2 and If the World Should End. and the one about walking away is stuck in my head ahaha good album, Imma probably buy it in the coming weeks.
  6. I'm listening to it now and so far it sounds like one pretty mediocre soundtrack.

Though I do like Rise Above - but even it is a rather generic show tune, nothing special, the soundtrack doesn't seem as inspired as what Bono & Edge wrote for The Clockwork Orange (at least going by Alex Descends Into Hell)
  7. I really like the falsetto that is hit on Turn Off the Dark (the song itself) soo haunting. I've been waiiiiiitttttingggggggg....
  8. Just read a bunch of reviews, as tonight was opening night. To sum them all up, it seems that they all think the show is better. It's good, but not necessarily great. If you can suspend your disbelief, it really opens up and takes off. The story is much clearer and streamlined. Seems many recommend it for families. One reviewer said that having kids in the audience made the experience better because it sort of helped tone down his cynicism (reminded me of the story of Peter Pan when it was first opened--J.M. Barrie brought children from a local orphanage into the audience).

I get the sense that it could become a sort of family-friendly tourist stop type show, which I guess can be good or bad depending on how you look at it.

I read a review somewhere that said the best part was when a car pulled up and you could hear New Years Day playing on the radio of said car

    (seriously)

    Hahaha

Listening to it now - haven't gotten all the way through, but it's just refreshing to hear new finished music from at least two members of U2, Edge in particular.
  11. "NY debut" begins whit little stuck from "Gods Country" or not?
