1. I was about to write something totally different from your opinion, Victor.

After watching the hole Rock am Ring concert, I realize that what they're doing is almost what U2 done with AB, but not with the same intensity.

I got this opinion based on the screams, the colours and the new "pop shape" of their songs and concert, and that's what happened with U2 when they released Achtung, but in a more revolutionary way of course.

Those new songs sound totally different from the songs of the first 3 albums. They have some electro and pop elements, and they were mixed with both "old" Coldplay styles (the first 3 albums and Viva La Vida ones). As a result, they got a very different style, but a style with their well known sound, in my opinion.

Finally, as I said, the thing that really reminds me ZooTV era is the scream, the animations and the colours they're using, together with their new style.

Just a note: I'm note comparing tours, songs and band. I'm just saying this Coldplay phase has the same impact for him that Achtung had for U2.

  2. Double post
  3. Hmm, Every Teardrop is a Waterfall is interesting - it's like a Disneyland dance song - almost sickeningly happy.

The lack of traditional song structure makes it feel kind of long and it sort of plateaus into a wash of noise which I don't really like too much.

It's ok, 6 or 7 out of 10, certainly nothing like Clocks or Life in Technicolour ii or even Violet Hill.

As for the rest of the new songs played live, Charlie Brown and Hurts like Heaven seem decent (at least the verse melody in HLH is interesting if the choruses are sort of flat).

But I'm not sure the new album will be better than VLV, they seem to have gone down a less serious, giddily happy sort of path compared to the pomp and majesty of VLV - I certainly don't hear anything as good as VLV, Lovers in Japan or Lost as yet.

  4. I like the Title The Scientist1
    Good Song
  5. Going to see them tomorrow at Pinkpop can't wait!! ;D

Whoa! Coldplay and classic like Achtung Baby in one sentence? I love Coldplay, but you cannot compare those things like that. New songs sound like pre-Viva La Vida sound with more electro and that's it. And the style is very comparable to their old style, nothing radically new or different.

I really, really want new album to be great, but based on these new songs...it seems almost impossible that it will be better than Viva La Vida.

seems to me though that they are like a sort of u2 of the next generation.. either you love them or hate them?

They're too soft to be new U2 or something like that. Coldplay exists for 15 years now. Just remember what U2 did in their 15 years. They already had few MASTERPIECES behind them and Live Aid.

Coldplay has few great albums, but zero masterpieces. It's obvious that U2 influenced them, but they can't be compared.

The only band that can be compared to U2 is, IMO - Muse. They produce music that pushes the boundaries just like U2 music did.

As I said, I'm not comparing Coldplay and U2's Achtung Baby. I just think this is something like an Achtung Baby era for Coldplay, when they're doing something different from their early work and they're doing something "pop", with different colours, chords and styles.

And it's too soon to campare those new songs and Viva La Vida. But I think if the rest of the new songs are similiar to these new songs, they could get a better album, even if Viva La Vida is excelent.
