Hi Everyone Did anyone get their copy of Turn Off the Dark today? And what are your first thoughts? I really like it and there are some really good songs on there. Wish it was a full band LP but in a way it keeps things fresh having 'new material'' but not dragging the band through the predicatable round of promoting it and the oh not them again. It remonds me of a Peter Gabriel LP OVO which was various artists singing new material. You wished you heard more of Gabriel singing but when he went out on tout a couple of years later and done three or four of the OVO songs they came through really strong. Heres hoping for U2 versions of STOTD songs on the Horizon
i have to say .. i'm listening to it quite often and i'm enjoying it more and more, i find it a pleasant album.
for now my favourite are No more, Pull the trigger (reminds me an old Spiderman theme), Sinistereo (the most interesting for sure)
Boys fall from the sky is less than the one we know better, Reeve Carney seems to be too forced but it's normal having in ears Bono singing it. strings adds something anyway
Rise above 1 is undoubtly catchy, catchy chorus, Bono makes the most in the song, I love him there. the second version is good too, maybe here is where Reeve makes his best.
Picture this and Bouncing off the walls could easily be U2 b-sides
Turn off the dark is a sweet and good closer.
a lot is lost not having Bono singing but only in 2 songs
not a masterpiece of course but a good album yes, thinking of what it's meant to be
like said i'm enjoying it
