  1. Coffee is proof of a benevolent universe.

    Fun fact: apparently no one in Vietnam drinks black coffee with no sugar. Even their instant coffee (not my choice) comes pre-loaded with sugar, and there's a kind that comes pre-loaded with milk and sugar. This was a sticky cultural conundrum considering my devotion to all things black and sugarless.

    But...then I discovered the wonders of ca phe den (which I am not accenting properly) which is just all kinds of delicious black goodness. A bag of Viet coffee and the little drip thingy may have found their way into my bag on my way home.



  2. I love Starbucks coffee here in Brazil. They also have nice cold stuff to drink in hot sunny summer days we use to have here by this time...

    Also nice breakfast food, although we have better places to eat something in the morning

    It's much better than the "Tim Hortons" slop many of my fellow-countrymen enjoy.

    I'm so embarrassed that this coffee has grown to represent Canada.

    Their donuts are okay, however.


  6. Do you mean, how do you make it? You put the metal drip container over the cup, put a scoop of coffee ground into the container above the cup, then wet the coffee with about a quarter cup of boiling water until the grounds absorb it, then add another quarter cup of boiling water and let it drip until it's finished. It's not dissimilar to the taste of Turkish or Lebanese coffee, though not as bitter.

    Weirdly, I only bought the coffee and dripper as an afterthought at Saigon airport as I really wanted a beer but only had about 4000 dong left (about 25c) and the credit card minimum was $10. Glad I did now.
