  3. I actually have no idea how they're going to go down.
    Watching a Glasto doc now, and when Thatcher was around it was mad.

    U2 seem to be Establishment Rock now, not just in music but their songs are used at political rallies.

    I'm a little worried for them.

    I have the same fears, but I've yet to talk to anyone going to Glasto (all people I know, to be fair) who have been negative about the band being there. I'm annoyed about the whole UK Uncut protest etc., there are ways of going about it that won't threaten the enjoyment of the majority who just want to have a good few days at a great festival with great bands. As someone here said previously, the people who are part of the protest have taken up tickets that actual musical/Glasto fans missed out on a result. I don't know enough about the tax business itself to have an informed opinion, but my overriding feelings are a highly ignorant "right now I just don't care". Not the most eloquent and thought out response, I grant you, but seriously, one band's tax haven activities etc. wasn't the thing that caused the credit crunch lol.

  6. U2 have their own Irish Director to film the gig, plus they have a good relationship with the BBC, so I reckon any protest will get very limited coverage on TV.
    People are worrying too much. U2 are big boys, they can take the heat. They are also serious professionals when it comes to performance with immense experience of big events. They'll be great!

    As for reception by the crowd, they'll be won over. U2 will be way better than any 'big name' headliner of recent years that I care to think of; Coldplay, Gorillaz, JayZ, Bruce. Have faith people!

  8. They just need to think of some things before they start to play:

    - Don't let any pidgeons fly
    - Don't make a heart symbol with your hands
    - Don't speechify about love and the poor
    - Actually don't speechify at all, just say 'Hello Glasto' at the start
    - Don't play Boots and Beatiful Day
    - Grow a mullet
    - Pick the hottest chick out of the audience and dance with her
    - End the show with SBS, a white flag and a 'Chris Martin is a wanker'-shirt.

    Then, they'll do fine.

That crew soundcheck of The Electric Co is throwing me for a bit of a loop, since that would have been a staple the last time they were playing fests, and it used to cause Bono to do some pretty memorable stupid things. Thought of it as a possibility, but then again they also soundchecked IYWTVD so it's probably nothing.
  12. They should do a combo of UABRS and a ZooTV show and they'll be just fine. Leave the post-2000 stuff with the claw.
