If it is truly a 1973, and wasn't a custom order back in 1973, then it would have originally had the 3-layer pickguard and white pickup covers.

The black pickups and pickguard wasn't a stock option until 1975 (black being the pickguard color of choice, vs. white for 1975-1981, if memory serves).

But from all accounts (magazine interviews from Vertigo tour through the Music Radar online article of 2009) the all black Stratocaster used for Streets on Vertigo and 360 is the all-black 1973.

Per Trini Lopez, yes.

But I've never seen him with one. They are cool guitars and Dave Grohl makes great use of them.

I meant orginally. The pickguard was switched to the back one. Its entirely possible he has benn using the same Strat for years just with diffrent color pickguards.

In any case, I imagine he must have some emotional attachment to it as 70s Strats are regarded as shit.

My buddy Chris made this video from last night. Edge on a 1974-ish Stratocaster. Bono on the Fender Custom Shop Tele

The Fly sounded great. The Achtung Baby heavy opening had the whole stadium excited.

Edge has found the 'diamonds in the rough', as 1970's era Stratocasters go.
