  2. I'd say the 360 tour is FAR far more momentous than the Popmart tour. So far every single ticket has been sold that has been for sale. Compare that to half empty stadiums.

    Also I'd definitely have Their slane performances on a top 10 list like this!
  5. In no particular order:

    1. Live Aid
    One of the band's earliest gigs that propelled them into the spotlight and established their dominance as a live act. 13 minute long version of Bad.

    2. Red Rocks
    One of the most legendary gigs in a natural amphitheater. The downpour only adds to the awesomeness of the show.

    3. Slane Castle Concerts
    In my opinion, their greatest concert to date. They played for a HUGE hometown crowd and did so with style, grace, and passion. U2 goes home. What more can be said?

    4. Super Bowl
    Amazing performances of Beautiful Day, MLK, and Streets, all dedicated to those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks. I consider the dropping of those two banners to be one of the most powerful moments in U2's history of playing in America.

    5. Lincoln Memorial
    A small performance in honor of the inauguration of Barack Obama, the first African American President of the US. It's a moment I will remember.

    6. 360 Tour
    After attending my first 360 show, I was finally able to see The Claw up close, and boy is that thing MASSIVE. Everything about this tour was simply mind boggling. You have this giant spaceship resting in the center of the field, a structure so large that it makes the stadium look small by comparison. It produces these enormous visual and sound effects that fill the stadium. But then, you have moments when the band shuts it all off and plays "shrink the stadium." Not to mention that this tour is the highest grossing tour ever. There's a lot I could say about this one, but most of us who have attended at least one 360 show know.

    7. Leg 3 of the Elevation Tour
    Most specifically the US shows. With this leg kicking off about a month after the devastating 9/11 attacks, there was no doubt that the atmosphere would be different this time around. The emotional songs about love and loss were more powerful and potent than ever before. Bono described seeing tears streaming down the faces of audience members as the light effects of Where The Streets Have No Name illuminated arenas across the country. These moments would them become the inspiration for City Of Blinding Lights.

    8. Rose Bowl 360 Show
    I know that this gig was not the absolute best compared to the other 360 gigs, but this show was particular momentous because it was the first concert to be streamed live on YouTube. It also produced the DVD, U2 360 at the Rose Bowl, which I think is a pretty good representation of the first two legs of the tour. Hopefully there will be at least another concert DVD released to show how the tour has evolved over time because this tour, unlike their others, seems to have evolved in very distinct stages.

    9. How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb
    It's my favorite album! But it also won many awards and really propelled the band into another phase of stardom, in my opinion.

    10. PopMart Sarajevo
    An extremely momentous event for U2 because they were the first major act to perform there after the war. Especially after their link-ups during the ZooTV Tour, this concert proved that the band kept their promise to play in Sarajevo. The concert itself was also quite moving because of Bono's broken voice and the audience's momentous effort to back him up. It easily represents the absolute best you can get from a crowd.

    5-The Time magazine cover in 1987.
    6-The Point Depot Dream it all up again speech.
    7-When One came together in Berlin.

    9-Beautiful Day.
    10-HTDAAB's Grammies.

    2. Joshua Tree release - cemented the 'supergroup' status
    3. Achtung Baby release - greatest reinvention in music history
    4. Under a Blood Red Sky - Red Rocks gig put them into the universal mainstream
    5. Zoo TV/Zooropa - completely changed live music. Still the greatest tour ever staged
    6. PopMart Sarajevo - just the occasion. Poignant doesn't cover it. Only U2 could do it
    7. ATYCLB/Elevation Tour - successful re-application for the job of best band in the world
    8. Unforgettable Fire release - 1st showed the band had an appetite to change their sound.
    9. PopMart Tour: South American leg - probably saved the band
    10. Rattle and Hum 'backlash' - led to Achtung Baby!!!

  9. Concert at the Brandenburg gate in Berlin 2009. The whole picture came together, U2 my favourite band in Berlin my favourite city on a small stage in front of a historic monument during celebration weekend of the fall of the Berlin wall, great mini concert.


  10. Maybe it's not outwardly important for U2's career, but I think it's significant to note that the band was recognizing the new leader of the US, which I think is great for U2's role as political and social activists.
  11. it's funny reading this, i think is this definitely one topic where there is no right and wrong, and where each person's opinion is accurate and i'm sure everyone can see the validity in it

    it's just amazing to see how many different stages this band has gone through and to have done it all so successfully and well too
