    no you don't have to do it. if we did decide to do it then we should decide on a select few people with excellent writing skills, write a rough version and then collectively craft and re-draft it til it was worded perfectly

    would it be better he didn't say anything and put prizwe at 300€/$? nothing would change.

  4. I think that some of us just want to make sure the P. McG knows what he said was wrong and that he addresses it. Maybe he'll apologize for it sooner than later.
  5. i've said this before but i'll say it again - sometimes U2 feels more like a cold global corporation than a band to me and it' just feels so inhuman and wrong and this quote by mcguinness just sums that feeling up and galvanises it ...

    and the band themselves aren't totally blameless.. i don't understand this need they have to always be the biggest and most successful with every single thing they do?! they've made more money than they know what to do with, they've achieved maybe more than any other band in history so why can't they just make interesting music and not care who buys it or not?

    i can hardly relate to the way they function at all anymore....

Most artists wouid love to be in the position they're in; rich enough to tell the whole world to take a flying leap, rich enough to be honest and uncompromising in their artistic vision. And yet they're still chasing approval from the masses. At what point do you get to have that kind of freedom if not now?
  8. I'm surprised you guys are getting this pissed off about it. Sure it was a moneygrubbing thing to say, but at the same time everyone knows that's what it's all about when it comes to re-releases. Especially when they have the different editions. He didn't say "everyone will buy a remaster, so we'll make more money by making it more pricey", he essentially just said "The hardcore fans will buy the edition with a shit-ton of material, which is the reason that one will cost the most"

    If you get mad about that, why don't you get mad about almost every single thing that's manufactured these days. Wanna buy a blu-ray? Sure it's only 29.99 but it probably cost about 2 bucks to make. Want to buy a digital camera? Only costs 499.99 but cost about 100 to make (just guessing there, have no idea). The point is, that's how any industry works, and McGuiness just laid it out plain and simple.

    I know he said "the fans will buy that one for sure so we'll jack up the price" but I think anyone could have figured that one out for themselves. I paid about $75 (I think) when the Joshua Tree deluxe came out, but what's actually in there? 3 discs, a small book, and some pictures on some parchment paper. I still bought it, because, well, he's right. I'm a huge fan, I'll buy it regardless of the price, so he can jack up the price. It's like buying a T-Shirt at a concert. 40 bucks is a ridiculous amount, but people still buy them becuase they want it so bad.

    Sure it wasn't a wise thing to say on his part, however I don't think it's anything to lose sleep over, not buy the album over, or start any kind of vendetta or boycotting over.
  9. i just got pissed cuz he knows diehards (id count myself as one) will buy everything cuz they have this sense of needing everything the band puts out, and he is basically saying because of this fact, we r gona ride u all the way to the bank and squeeze an extra few buks outta ya. He didnt need to say it

    Yep. But there's a catch. He said "people", and I'm sure he forgot that the only people who would buy a deluxe box set are U2's biggest fans. People who wouldn't buy this anyway won't even notice what he said; and even if they noticed, they still wouldn't buy the thing. But see what he's achieved among the big fans by stating that? There are lots of "people who would pay for this" that now simply won't!

    cause that shit just isn't acceptable. to come out publicly and say that is an embarrassment and to be completely honest, reading it right now, i am ashamed to be a fan of this band if he is a representative of them and their opinions and morals/what they stand for as a group.

    And what next? A petition? We're not starting the whole atu2 approach to things - going on other forums asking to sign a stupid & unmeaningful petition. But a letter is also quite ridiculous - not one single person there will read it, and nothing will be done about it. Nothing will get noticed at all. Nothing.

    And even then, if its 200$ or £100 or whatever currency you are in, I can guarantee all of you that every single one of you would buy that Super Deluxe version of Achtung Baby. Because you just simply love the album and want it.
