    BBCHD was only 192kbit/s. Therefore, since this is 320kbit/s it's probably been compressed twice, that'll kill the quality. I'd think the flac files in the torrent section here are the best, those are really 192kbit/s which is what Setanta also broadcasted in, and they haven't suffered lossy compression twice. Therefore, they should be better!

  7. converting the vobs to wav was the easiest method for me to edit without losing any further quality and seeing as flacs are available there is no need for me to upload in that format, I've no idea if the flacs that are available as a torrent are from a direct stream capture

    flacs will always be better, but I think you need to extract to mp2, could be another format from a HD source for true lossless audio and you will need a direct capture, nothing recorded on a standalone dvd recorder will be truly lossless unless it captures the direct stream and as far as I'm aware not many recorders do this

    My dvd recorder has compromised the audio as it doesn't record the direct audio stream broadcast by the BBC the recorder has already re encoded the audio

    extracting the audio from the vobs to wav is another reduction in quality

    converting the wav to any bitrate in mp3 will further reduce the quality

    the original rip I uploaded the early hours of Saturday morning the audio was very low so uploaded another rip with increased audio in a better mp3 bit rate
  8. A TV broadcast isn't lossless, BBCHD and Setanta broadcasted in 192kbit/s, BBC 2 and 4 broadcasted in 256kbit/s. I don't think you can get this in better quality 256kbit/s. So there is no real lossless possible since it was compressed by BBC. But compressing compressed audio further is never any good.
  9. Correct. As far as I can see nobody has uploaded the extracted audio that the BBC or Setanta broadcasts
  10. Maybe, or maybe not, but the flac upload sure could be just that. 192kbit/s Setanta broadcast in flac.
  11. The Flacs that have been uploaded are from the Setanta broadcast with EBTTRT cut, maybe you could upload your version with the complete EBTTRT.
