That's the point, the contrast of the devilish, "It's no secret..." etc, that know-all, tell-all, pessimistic told-you-so phone call from hell against the chorus that sounds like it's being sung by angels, and the lyrics were written in heaven. It's cheesy to serve a purpose, not because they were trying to be the next Lionel Richie.
