1. the lyrics are kind of cheesy too "shine like a burning star"? bleh
  2. Hey, stop picking on "The Fly." The song saved U2 from being boring.
  3. Edge once said "The Fly" didn't stand the test of time. He said that areound the time of the release of Best of 1990-2000. Being that it was played after that interview... a number of 'Vertigo' tour shows and reintroduced now to the delight of most fans... I think there is a chance that Edge might change his answer.

I think they're happy with it now though Sounded amazing when I was at anaheim

    Precisely

  5. That's the point, the contrast of the devilish, "It's no secret..." etc, that know-all, tell-all, pessimistic told-you-so phone call from hell against the chorus that sounds like it's being sung by angels, and the lyrics were written in heaven. It's cheesy to serve a purpose, not because they were trying to be the next Lionel Richie.

    Yep
  7. I personally think The Fly has some of the best lyrics of any U2 song. Like the verse:

It's no secret that a conscience can sometimes be a pest
It's no secret ambition bites the nails of success
Every artist is a canniball, every poet is a thief
All kill their inspiration and sing about the grief

This verse gives me the chills. I always get goosebumps when I'm listening to that verse in the song. Besides, it is in my top 3 U2 songs as well.

i always thought it was "every artist is a cannibal" as in they eat their own kind

  9. Agh, simple spelling error. Accidently used the different, most common spelling of it. I'll edit that

Agree 1000% Those are classic, brilliant lyrics, right up there with anything they've done before or since.
  11. ^ yep, back in the day when incredible lyrics seem to come out of bono effortlessly. no 'intellectual tortoises' in the '90s!
  12. That's better.
