1. The Fly is magic. Second favourite song after Streets.

    A U2 classic

  2. It´s amazing how Bono´s lyrics are a lot worse then they used to be... He´s capable of writing very good stuff but he seems like not trying lately...

I hate parts like: intelectual tortoise; like a little old lady; 1, 2, 3, 14; a mole digging up a hole; atm machine...

I miss the days when he would write stuff like One, Until The End Of The World, I Still Haven´t Found, Who´s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses, The First Time, Dirty Day etc... there are so many!

IMO, many of the best lyrics of U2 are in Achtung Baby:
Acrobat: "I know you´d hit out if you only knew who to hit!"
EBTTRT: "My heart is where it´s always been and my head is somewhere in between"
So Cruel: "you put your lips to her lips to stop the lie"
Wild Horses: "you´re dangerous because you´re honest"
One: How can people play this at weddings? Their best and most truthful lyric, in my opinion... B translates the feeling of a serious fight with a loved one like I´ve never seen!
  3. I hate parts like: intelectual tortoise; like a little old lady; 1, 2, 3, 14; a mole digging up a hole; atm machine...

And all the lyrics from North Star.

  4. I really don't feel like the lyrics to North Star are that bad. Second verse is a bit odd but other than that I kinda like em.

I still haven´t made my mind up about North Star, but Every Breaking Wave is beautiful... This track I want it so bad! I want new stuff with good quality, classic U2 or not, I want it good!
  6. Every Breaking Wave has the best lyrics written since 2001. I think Kite is a beautifully written song.
  7. "Every gambler knows that to lose is what you're really there for"...God, I love that line.

  8. Yup. My favorite of the new songs by a fair margin. Honorable mention to Boy Falls From The Sky but I feel that's in a different Spiderman grouping
  9. I never got over the fact that it's just Dirty Day for a modern musical (sort of)
  10. I'm going to agree with Edge on "The Fly" not holding up to the test of time, but only halfway. The song does sound a little dated, with Bono's voice being so processed as well as the drums, it as well as the highly processed sound of Edge's guitar. Does one of those opinions make me not like the song in the slightest, not one bit. But it does sound very early 90's.

I think the way they are playing it now is PERFECT no backing tracks, just loud guitars, a driving bass and bitchin' raw drums. It's never been better.

  11. I have massive issues with EBW because it's that same post-2000 formula all over again. Metaphor A + contrasting metaphor B + extended metaphor C (bridge full of vowels) + vaguely hooky chorus. Lather, rinse, repeat.

    Do Not Want.

Glad someone thinks the same as me.

I personally do not like Every Breaking Wave. I hated the way it was performed and the lyrics. Bring out a studio version and I might become satisfied.
