1. Thanks, appreciated.

My ears aren't that much better than others. Quite a bunch of people noticed there's 'something' wrong with this webcast. Only difference is I quickly recognized what was actually wrong. Thanks to the Salome outtakes, which suffered from the exact same problem. I've listened about 15 years to those demos before I started to think damn this is wrong and another year to find out what was wrong. Since then, I can hear it in a second when there's a phase problem.

Basically, music is very very easy. When you listen with headphones, just imagine you're in front of a stage and think where you should hear the instruments. Intuitively, you'd want to hear the bass and the voice in the middle, you want to hear the guitar on the left because guitarists typically are left on the stage (for the public), and you want the drums where you see them: snare in the middle, hihat on the right, toms from right to left etc. If you listen to music and can't really locate where you hear things, or when you hear sounds somewhere in the soundstage that can't possibly be there, then there's something wrong with the recording.

I cannot understand the discussion about bitrates and lossiness, no matter how hard I try. This is a webcast @192k. So take it or leave it, it will never get any better than 192k no matter how big you blow the files. And it sounds pretty damn good for a webcast, I think.

The only reason why this show sounds bad is because one of the channels is phase reversed. I cannot understand why people don't hear this. Appearently most people's ears are insensitive to phase inversion but as soon as the problem is solved, everybody will hear how much better the music sounds. Phase inversion cancels out many parts of the music and makes music sound canny and extremely unnatural.

So. I took a source and phase corrected it. That's all. And I'm pretty sure that did help a lot more than 'remastering' the show. It just does not make sense to EQ a show as long as it has fundamental flaws.

    WOW!!

this sounds SOOOOOO much better!! i think you should do some of these EQing on the other U2.com broadcasts from this tour... Thank you!! Much appreciated!!

It seems easy. Thanks for all info.
  4. That phase shift is awesome sounds like glasto now.
  5. I think THIS is the best version!:

  6. I don't want to be rude and I do respect everyone's preferences, but could you explain why you think it's a better version?

I compared both Dafy's mix and my version and this is not to turn anyone into my version. But Dafy's mix is pretty heavily distorted because it is too loud (5 dB louder than my version). Additionally, it contains weird plops. Besides, in my version the extreme sibilance was reduced quite a bit.

Again this is in no way to promote my version, but I think it is useful to describe differences and discuss pros and contras instead of just recommending sources without any information.

    Regards,
    noiseless

EDIT Another thing is that Dafy's mix sounds somewhat 'fuller'. It's louder and more compressed, resulting in a 'bigger' sound. It's simply a matter of taste whether you like that or not - I myself don't like heavy compression because it is fatiguing for my ears. But especially for ipods and small in-ear phones, compression seems to be an advantage.
  7. La Version de "noiseless" tambien es excelente, asi que no se preocupen por cual bajar, ya que al tener dos versiones, es mejor para todos y elegir la que mas les guste.

    Abrazoos de Chile!!!
  8. I think we should thank both Noiseless who gave us the light and MountTemple by his tireless efforts to offer us, a better version. I believe we should thank them rather than making a contest or an election to see which one is the better version.

  10. Agree!!!

Both are just fine. Without technical issues (I don't understand nothing of it) is just a matter of taste.
  11. I am very grateful to anyone who posts a show - especially ones of this calibre (or is it "caliber?" - or either). Sorry. I don't think I would be as big as a U2 fan as I am now (much to my wife's chagrin) without being able to enjoy all of these concerts from so many eras! The albums are great but the live performances are spectacular.
  12. Many thanks to both, noiseless and Dafy for all the contributions...
