1. Fine, throat hurts a bit after trying to keep up with Bono on the ZooTV DVD.

    How are you, friend?

  2. I guess that is understandable. He really is an amazing singer. I'm impressed by his 360 voice by the way.

I'm fine thanks, a bit sad about holidays coming to an end in a few days, but that has to come one day or another after all.
  3. 360 was his best voice since ZooTV, best voice ever in some regards.

My holidays ended two weeks ago, I'm jealous.

I'm not that good about technical aspects of singing, but that's what I feel as well. He has not the falsetto anymore (insane during ZooTV), but his voice is currently very powerful.

I understand, holidays are very long is most of French universities. Some friends of mine go back to school on September, 27th. Definitely crazy !
  5. Well, if you look at technique only, his voice is the best ever right now.

He had bad singing technique until after the Elevation tour when he started taking singing lessons. The sound that came out of Bono's mouth was amazing with bad technique as well though, but because of bad technique, his voice was ruined at the end of the 90s.

I had ten weeks of holiday this summer. Then I get like three weeks at christmas, and have three other breaks of one week.

I think your workload is a lot heavier in France when you actually go to school though

I understand all that better now thanks. Just by listening, I though he started taking lessons after Lovetown. During ZooTV, I think it was less about yelling and more about singing, although he was still screaming more or less actually. His voice was bad during Popmart and Elevation, but I kind of like it sometimes, really emotional. Anyway, some 360 moments are insane. And the 2010 opera parts of Miss Sarajevo sum that up I think.

Well here it's known we have very heavy weeks of work, but (too?) long school breaks. 10 days in the end of October, 2 weeks for Christmas, then 2 other in Februrary and in April. And finally about 2 months in summer. However that's different for universities, which "choose" their holidays dates.
  7. I guess I have like 17 or 18 weeks in total.

You can really just listen to Bad for the technique part, the wide awakes from ZooTV Dublin are brutal, raw screams. If you listen to like Rome 2010, they're pretty clean. Guess which one hurt his voice the most?

Do you think the falsetto hurt it too? They were crazy during ZooTV, especially during Mysterious Ways. I'm always like "How can he reach those notes??" while listening to it. I prefer 360 Wide Awakes, they are more controlled but powerful too. After 20 years of yelling, that's not really surprising his voice was hurt during Popmart and Elevation then I guess.
  9. I think that if we're gonna be technical, it wasn't falsetto, it was head voice. Falsetto is when the vocal cords don't compress, and air is let out. It can be applied anywhere in the voice. Head voice is when you're singing in the head resonance parts of the voice.

I actually don't think they hurt him as much as the screaming, maybe only a little. He still had an amazing falsetto on Popmart. And he wasn't yelling and straining like he did in chest voice for the wide awakes.

Also, the notes he hit weren't THAT high, listen to Night and Day, that has his highest note ever recorded in the screaming part towards the end. I can get there as well, I can get even higher. I think the MW notes are only high Cs or something, the wide awakes if Bad are also high Cs.
  10. Sorry if I'm posting slowly, writing these long posts on my iPod touch
  11. Don't worry Olof, thanks for the effort, I know this is the most complicated thing ever

Thanks for the explaination of the difference between falsetto and head voice. I understand it better now . You're right, Night and Day is amazing, that could have been interesting to see if he could hit that notes live in the ZooTV era.
  12. Falsetto means something like false voice I think. The difference in sound is that a falsetto often sounds breathy, or at least a lot less powerful.

just remembered that i think I have a crazy pic for the photo thread.
