1. Captain Hook just offered me the 320kb/s version, sounds the same.
  2. What a stupid video...

And I think everyone should be prepared for the mix to be the exact same on the official album. It was for NLOTH (if I remember correctly) and usually is for most leaked albums.

  3. This is not the final version of Mylo Xyloto?

    Hey guys.

EMI Mexico, EMI Colombia and EMI Argentina confirmed that the leak is not the final version of Mylo Xyloto.

    https://www.facebook.com/coldplaymx?sk=wall

The same happened with VLVODAAHF, if somone can remember that.
They are saying that this is a promotional album, but the final version could have a lot of new (or maybe less) production.

    Quotes:
    'I tend to believe that.
The quality of the sound is not that great. Princess of China still sounds 'destroyed', like someone pushed the compressor threshold all the way down."

"I'm not sure about this either, I just shared the information with you because I thought that was important. There are three official source, so, I doubt that's fake. I agree with the Princess Of China stuff, the song still sounds awful, and Hurts Like Heaven has some quality problems too.
If this version isn't the final edition, we we'll get the leak of the final version in few hours, anyway "

"Comparing ETIAW, MM and Paradise to the previous version they sound the same"

"I could believe it. Listen to Us Against the World.
At 0:22 it looks like Johnny makes a little mistake plucking the string.
    Anyone hear that?"

"Yes. And listen to Princess Of China. The beat starts in a wrong time at the beginning. As EMI Argentina said, Hurts Like Heaven starts with a drum beat and Chris's voice, but in this leak album you can still hear a little of the Mylo Xyloto intro."

"No way in hell EMI would let this be the final version with the HLH wrong intro, johny's gaff on UATW, and PoC sounding like a drunk hopping on a trash can "

"ITS TRUE HLH just premiered in the UK and it's waaaay different, more clear vocals and piano."
  4. Copy of a post by fabian on page 178.
  5. I have the Japanese version (including the Glasto bonus tracks) in my iTunes and it's musically the same. Better quality though.

I was wondering what would be Leonard Cohen's contribution in 'Up With The Birds' and found out the first line is from 'Anthem':
    The birds they sang
    at the break of day
    Start again
    I heard them say

Matt, would you be able to make that a little more clear? First you say it might be their Achtung Baby, but you don't think they needed to change their sound that much for it to be called their best album, because they achieved a great Coldplay sound they could've capitilized more on with Rush of Blood? And then you say Rush of Blood is like their Joshua Tree, and Viva La Vida was their crowning moment but it wasn't weird enough to be their Achtung Baby, but this new album is..I'M SO CONFUSED

I think in a situation like this it's not always good to compare any bands to U2. Not because U2 is above every band and their past is perfect or anything, but because their journey was pretty unique. I could be wrong, but I don't think Coldplay went into this with the same mentality as U2 went into making Achtung Baby with, at all. U2 were on the edge of destruction, they almost broke up, they knew that their sound had run its course and they needed something new for the 90's. I'd honestly say that their image was a bigger change than their music was. Sure Achtung Baby was a transformation, but U2 was completely different in character and in the media.

Coldplay isn't really in that same situation. Viva La Vida got a great reception. They probably could have made an album that sounded like traditional coldplay, or even made one that sounds like Viva La Vida, and it would've sold great. But I think they wanted to push the envelope further with this one, not because they thought they had to do it to get to the top spot even more, but because they wanted to experiment more, tha'ts it. They aren't going for a change of image, the roots of the music in this album is your basic coldplay music, it's just the stuff that Eno helped with that makes this album different. I think Coldplay was in a position while making this album where they could have made any style of music, and as long as it was good, it would've sold. They just went experiemental a bit because they probably felt like branching out as a band.

That being said, I'm not a consultant to the band or anything, so I could be completely wrong, but this is my belief. If I misinterpreted what you said, than let me know! I'm not trying to argue or anything, just having a respectful discussion!

    Alex

Hahahaha Alex, I was so worn out when I wrote that I'm surprised I was even spelling words correctly. Let me clarify.

U2 are at the same point in their careers as when U2 made Achtung Baby (I think the RS review said the same thing)...it seems like when a band like U2 or, now, Coldplay, has had a particular style so pinpointed, they feel the need to reinvent their sound. Achtung Baby is obviously a fantastic example of this, and I honestly think that Viva la Vida is Coldplay's best example of a reinvention of sound. The incorporation of other styles, less falsetto, darker tones, complex song structures, the theme of revolution...it was new ground for Coldplay, and they seemed to knock it out on their first try. That being said, it really wasn't a "weird" enough album to boldly difference them from what they had been before- Like Achtung Baby was for U2. I'm not saying that Coldplay is trying to mock U2's career verbatim, I'm just saying that sonically, MX tries to be everything that Achtung was. Weird, poppy, dance-able, produced to the limit, and sonically brilliant. I just don't think MX lives up to that.

The only comparison I tried to make about Joshua Tree/Rush of Blood was that in the case of both bands, it that era of that particular band's magnum opus. The definitive, original "Coldplay" sound is captured without flaw on Rush of Blood, much like that classic U2 sound was captured on JT.

I know I'm confusing, sorry for jumbling this all up
  7. Coldplay just finished playing a 4 song tribute at Steve Jobs' memorial service for all Apple employees in Cupertino, California. They played Yellow, Viva La Vida, Fix You, and Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall. The sound quality was not great, but some great antidotes between songs. I will share them later.....

'Now the old king is dead, long live the king' and ETIAW?

  9. Viva la Vida was a huge thing for Apple/iTunes, don't you remember those ads? He's clearly not damning Steve Jobs.

I know, but it is just strange.

    Thinking of it:
Everyone knows Viva La Vida. I do not think there is a track on Mylo Xyloto everybody will know.
  11. Princess of China could be this one. Rihanna = hit after all.
