1. Everybody = my grandparents.

Princess of China is Mylo Xyloto's equivalent to Lost+.
  2. Before Yellow: "We played this song for Steve 10 years ago, and he said it was shit, that we'd never make it big. This is 'Yellow.'"

Before Viva La Vida: "We were in San Francisco a few years back and my computer broke...a G-whatever. I took it to a friend and said "This thing is broke." He said "Well, Steve Jobs is in your dressing room." Steve opened the computer and turned it on and it worked immediately, because he was a true genius. Anyway, Steve used this next song for a commercial that a lot of you worked on."

Before "Fix You": " I'm about to do some serious name-dropping...We were in Souh Africa with the big man when we heard the news about Steve......no, not God. Bono. We were sitting around talking about how influential Steve was and how Blackberry going down for three days was probably Steve's doing. Bono is friends with God, and he said it was definitely because of Steve. Anyway, we'd like to dedicate this next song to Steve and Blackberry. This is called "Fix You."

These are all paraphrased, I can't remember what he said word for word.....
  3. Genious. Gotta love him.

Hahahaha Alex, I was so worn out when I wrote that I'm surprised I was even spelling words correctly. Let me clarify.

U2 are at the same point in their careers as when U2 made Achtung Baby (I think the RS review said the same thing)...it seems like when a band like U2 or, now, Coldplay, has had a particular style so pinpointed, they feel the need to reinvent their sound. Achtung Baby is obviously a fantastic example of this, and I honestly think that Viva la Vida is Coldplay's best example of a reinvention of sound. The incorporation of other styles, less falsetto, darker tones, complex song structures, the theme of revolution...it was new ground for Coldplay, and they seemed to knock it out on their first try. That being said, it really wasn't a "weird" enough album to boldly difference them from what they had been before- Like Achtung Baby was for U2. I'm not saying that Coldplay is trying to mock U2's career verbatim, I'm just saying that sonically, MX tries to be everything that Achtung was. Weird, poppy, dance-able, produced to the limit, and sonically brilliant. I just don't think MX lives up to that.

The only comparison I tried to make about Joshua Tree/Rush of Blood was that in the case of both bands, it that era of that particular band's magnum opus. The definitive, original "Coldplay" sound is captured without flaw on Rush of Blood, much like that classic U2 sound was captured on JT.

I know I'm confusing, sorry for jumbling this all up

    Ohhhh okay

I can agree to that. I don't think the production was used as efficiently and as effectively as it was on Achtung Baby, I think here it's obvious that they're using it to sound different, if that makes sense. Achtung Baby was essentially written to sound like that, it was produced becuase the music demanded it, while I think Mylo Xyloto would sound good without it as well. That being said, I still like how it sounds (if this is even the final version). It still sounds fresh despite the fact that it might be consciously trying.
  6. Nah, 5 or 6 listens, already more than half of the songs will probably never be played again. Some great tunes included but not the great album I was hoping for. Musically it is great but some tunes just don't add up. The transitions and small tunes in between are very nice. I love the Princess intro. Perhaps it needs more time for me. Also some tunes work live way better than on the album.

By the way, I love the Paradise videoclip, gotta love the elephant Great fun seeing them on stage like this.
  7. Me likes that video. Surreal but meaningful and quite beautiful too.
  8. Does anyone else think "A Hopeful Transmission" sounds a bit like One Tree Hill at the beginning?

    hahaha, yes

  10. The transitions are what makes this album I think.

Mylo -> Hurts like Heaven is unreal
M.M.I.X -> Every Teardrop is also UNREAL

  11. ETIAW live in Glasto among the bonus tracks sounds quite bad (really terrible, to be honest) to me... or is it just me?
