1. Are you still rocking the N900 Chris. Thinking of picking one up used.
  2. I am going for a different phone in January. There is nothing coming from Nokia anymore. There are still some modders / hackers active, we got 720p video recording last month. Plus 720p playback (which doesnt work as well as the recording). There is also a community firmware which added portrait support and numerous fixes. So enough of modding going on.

But the n900 is seriously lacking mainstream apps (like Whatsapp). Even Ovi Maps is crippled on N900 (no spoken directions, etc). That is my main motivation for a new phone.

It really is a shame, Maemo has lots of interesting concepts. First real multitasking phone i owned and that works perfectly fine. Too bad Nokia pulled the plug before even releasing it.
  3. I know what i'd be buying into. Mainly just want the different form factor for a little while. Android still bores me so not interested in taking that route agai but do fancy a second device. WP7 not quite there yet, even with Nokia hardware......
  4. Keep in mind that the N900 is more than 2 years old now. New phones would perform better.

I am not sure what to do. Cheap android/WP7 or 2nd hand beast.

It certainly is old but I do love a good old bargain buy. Cheap androids are too cheap (poor screens etc) but i'm sure bargains can be had buying used. Original Galaxy or Desire would both be great value.
  6. Yeah, thinking about the Galaxy. Have some time to think about it though
  7. next question from your dummy at work.

there's the transportable navigation system we have for our cars. It contains all maps of Europe, including Ireland. For example, if I type in "Dublin" as destination, it will sure come up with a route and everything. So.... my question: if I take this navigation thing with me to Ireland, will it work there as well? I'd need it for a rented car there and want to safe the extra costs for a borrowed one there.
Any idea? How to find out such a thing (without the obvious try and fail method while there) ?

Yeah, it'll work. Just uses the satellites to work, doesn't matter where you are. All you need to do is make sure the battery is charged.

EDIT: Would be worth taking a second opinion to be 100% safe.
  9. Should work
  10. If it contains the whole Europe maps, it will work wherever you are

Remember me when you put "Howth" as destination, please...
  11. It should work fine. Might take a while to lock if it doesn't have A-GPS (or if it does and it'd on German networks). Should be fine though.
  12. Nokia's Windows phones look nice. I probably won't like WindowsPhone but I am a sucker for Nokia hardware. I will be tempted.
