1. Anyone else think BYHD sounds like it could be from the Rubin sessions?

I'd tend to agree had the riff not been on Salome
  3. Hadn't heard it on Salome, just a thought I had earlier on.

The vocal definitely sounds like current Bono though. The riff was from Wake Up.
  5. Heaven and Hell is also current Bono. Can't decide if I like it better than the original bootleg recording. They're both pretty good. I really love the track itself, makes me think of a guy singing in a bar after everyone's left, when the bartender is cleaning up and there's only 1 or 2 people drinking at the bar with the weight of the world on their shoulders.

    Just thought I'd share!

Point is, Bono bangs on about being relevant/radio hits and then releases a track that to me, still sounds rough around the edges. We know full well that radio stations are more likely to play Even Better Than The Real Thing (FooW Mix) than Blow Your House Down. Over here, once stations got wind that Get On Your Boots was not popular, it got scrapped.

Personally, the re-issue of Achtung Baby with all the fancy extras is asking for a more modern re-release of an old single as opposed to an outtake that was rediscovered.

If we're talking about which U2 songs get played on the radio, I have actually heard No Line On The Horizon 2/B-side version played on the radio on multiple occasions. The first time was a couple years ago and the second time was just over the summer.

For those who don't know what version I'm talking about, it's this one:

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if b-sides/remixes get played as the CDs propagate.

I'm so going to do that.

What I find most perplexing about the choice of BYHD is that it is in fact a Rattle&Hum outtake, as evidenced by the acoustic version. I'm glad they didn't pick EBTTRT, despite the awesomeness of that song. A rerelease of AB should've been accompanied by a rerelease of the Fly.

BYHD is indeed rough, Boots on the other is a slick radio friendly production, the video even more. It fared reasonably well in most places (just not particularly in the UK). Like Vertigo or BD or -way back- Fly&Desire, it worked reasonably well on the radio, it's just not a great representation of the album.

BTW I don't watch that much music television, but I saw both the videos for Boots and Magnificent on quite a number of occasions.

The fact that Boots was sandwiched between two Lady Blabla songs at the top of the Irish charts shows you the relevance of hits. The irony is that shallow/casual listeners misunderstood the lyrics (hint: it's not about boots) despite being native speakers, whereas in non-English speaking countries this was less of a problem. Less direct Bongolese in BYHD will surely benefit the song, making it more mystical.

  11. I always though I may be one of the biggest U2 fans in this world. After seeing a couple of these images, I'm not even close!

    But I am impressed!
