1. The UK is terrible for accent. Foreign people are taught English essentially as the Queen would speak. Yet people from Liverpool sound obnoxious, Scottish people pronounce a lot of words differently and also use some of their own dialect. Thick Irish accents are tough to decipher, Welsh people add extra pronunciation to words. People from Newcastle, Birmingham etc sound completely different to each other.

Also could go global, as you said Australians do not speak the same as an Englishman. Same language though.

You've got a tough job ahead if you want to understand everyone. Would be difficult for an outsider to actually tell you're not English because you type some things in ways that are not necessarily taught. So you're doing a good job.

Now, non native English speakers, particularly Eastern Europe, are difficult.
  5. I had good laugh reading your previous post, Tim... Yeah, I've been to the UK twice and, although London was accent-friendly, wherever you went to (and not much further from London, just a few miles) you had to 'reset' your ears as people spoke very very differently... I liked it very much though. And I enjoyed the Irish accents (thick or not) a damn lot, although I think I might have been biased on that.

PS. by the way, I'm writing from my phone (and I'm on a bus) so forgive any possible typos or stuff. Thanks
