1. The Fly is still my favourite single ever, mainly because of Korova and that Fly remix. Which I was especially glad they included on the remaster as a bonus track - because they are both THAT good.

I liked it as a lead single, because (I wasn't around and not becoming a fan 'til 1998 or so, so I can't tell you the reaction) - it made people sit up and notice. Sure, when U2 came out for the first time for many people in 1980 with I Will Follow - putting on that record and hearing this great song with all the energy and excitement of what punk and rock once was, even though IWF isn't exactly punk - made them go ''Wow, this is gonna be a classic album''. And it is, and it was.

Then you have Streets opening Joshua Tree and that would have had people going ''Wow, this band gets better and better''. Then 1991, people's record players and CD players must be busted because of the way that song just opens up the album - and The Fly as well, how it comes in with that psuedo-techno-grunge sound opening the song. And it continues with Zooropa and then Discotheque.

I know when Beautiful Day hit here in Australia, I remember the excitement over that: ''U2 are finally back to their roots.'' With the all-too-familiar typical contemporary rock sound of the day, much like Duran Duran after stuff like All She Wants Is - then going to something incredible like Serious, Notorious, Come Undone, Ordinary World, White Lines etc - as U2 did from Discotheque and Lemon and Numb to Beautiful Day, Elevation, Vertigo, Sometimes, Blinding Lights (which is one of THE best openers U2 have ever had).

Personally, I thought Boots was a ballsy choice, but a stupid choice at the same time. If they wanted better and to get people to pick up the record (but not be ripped off by 2000 various release formats): Breathe followed by Magnificent, Horizon and then another choice - maybe Fez and then Stand Up, to show all the diverse sounds of the record. Which brings me to 2012 - 2014's album, what do people that's gonna be like? Experimental, exciting, bit of rock, getting back to that 'punk' sound?
  2. Either a new type of exciting U2 rock.

    Or HTDAAB2
  3. Something new and experimental. Trent Reznor, Bob Marlette or Rick Rubin in for an album.

Any of those would open up and expand sounds as achieved on Numb, Exit or Vertigo.

That's not all I like about the The Fly single though. Yes, it's my favourite U2 song, so of course its going to be my favourite single, but the b-sides are, as you said Drew, fantastic. I personally prefer the content on the EBTTRT single (Salome, Spinning Head, Where Did It All Go Wrong), but The Fly is almost on par with it. But what I love especially about The Fly single was the cover and the packaging. I love that digipack that came with the CD single - I could stare at it for hours, and the album artwork has something appealing to my eyes.

I'm trying to get The Fly on all formats - 7", 12", CD & Cassette. Half way there so far.

Could you make some photographs of the artwork?

EBTTRT is a great single too

  7. As in, you could make a photograph of 4 AB singles (EBTTRT, The Fly, MW, Wild Horses) when you put them together? Or you want me to take a picture of the CD and vinyl I have?
  8. Does The Fly have inner artwork?
I would love to see the singles put together by the way
  9. Korova 1 - It's a cow in Russian

  10. The vinyl doesn't, as it isn't a gatefold. The CD single is a gatefold, however, it only has information about the songs. On the back of both formats, there is a picture of 'The Fly'.

    I knew it means cow

Does anyone knows the story behind the song for I do not?
