    Posting a tweet with @username is like replying to that person on twitter. They'll see it in their mentions, and anyone who's following both you and them will see it in their stream. What people quite often do for events (and if you follow @atu2 you'll see this) is to retweet (RT) other people's tweets during shows. You can also use hashtags (such as #u2Glasto, #u2360SA etc) which are just a way of tagging your tweets so they can be followed in a search stream (you might have noticed the 'trending topics' list down the side of the twitter webpage). You just type the search or the hashtag into the search box on the twitter page or in your app on your phone and you'll see all the tweets using it, not just those from people you're following.
