There is not a huge amount of difference between that and appearing on the X Factor in my opinion.

    No, not really.

Apple and U2 had a contract where Apple would promote U2 by putting loads of their stuff on the home page on the Store, creating a huge U2 page, making an exclusive discography full of their albums and songs. Meanwhile, U2 were releasing an iPod. They really had no option to that advert. They were basically promoting each other, by U2 playing Vertigo over the advert to promote iPod, which would subsequently promote the song as well. Anyway, Vertigo was massive from the word go. It wasn't solely because of that Apple advert, everyone had heard of it before that.

Whereas, Coldplay are going on to a show because Chris Martin says that he is a massive fan of the show. And they want to promote, I'm presuming, 'Charlie Brown'. They already have enough publicity in the UK, they are huge. Why not do it on the American version of The X Factor, in a country where Coldplay haven't really hit that big.
  2. They may well do that Kieran (US Show) as may U2 (I think Bono has already been on American Idol). The music business is changing fast. I was watching TV this morning and that 16 year Justin Beiber was playing a gig with a Vertigo shaped ramp going out into the audience and he looked like he had been doing it all his life. Talk about pupil and master! If U2 are going to stay as serious recoeding artists and not just a touring band such as the Rolling Bones, then this may be the opportunities they have to grab in the future.
  3. i rest my case.
  4. Jesus... That was unreal.
  5. and i am sure of 1 thing
18 million people were not thinking coldplay have sold out
    more like
    wow!
  6. What happened? Were they good?
  7. Yup, very good. They had the wristband going and all. Played Charlie Brown and Paradise, went down very well.
  8. I'm embarrased to like Coldplay when they go on X-Factor

  9. The people watching do already like the show, so they won't lose credibility on this group.
The group that knows they performed, but not watched, probably consists of Coldplay fans, so there is not much to lose here either.

No-one is gonna say: 'Oh, performed on X-Factor, now I don't like them anymore'
  10. It looks very cool, but to bad thats the only positive point about this peformance.....

They should be saying that - it's a total embarassment (in my opinion). I just don't think that a band of that standing should be playing on a made-for-TV talent contests.

I know Bono appeard doing vocals on a Spiderman track on American TV but if U2 played on X-Factor or an equivalent, I'd be totally mortified
