Wow, you have multiple friends who like PJ. Lucky you. When I bought my T.O. tickets back in May I simply picked up two assuming it would be easy to get someone to come along. I had a few refusals before someone say they'd be in...and for the record this friend of mine LOVED the show.

Oh, I don't HATE Coldplay...I just think they are very overrated. I really like their first two albums but then it kinda falls apart after that. They're an easy target, too - and I have safety in numbers when it comes to picking on them.
  3. Originally posted by RUMMY:I was watching "you" on TV earlier on - NYC, that is. You know, Jenny McCarthy...Ryan Seacrest...Bieber and Santana performing "Let it Be"...I got sick of the Nivea hats and thundersticks (amongst other things) and had to turn it off.

Dick Clark must be rolling in his grave...oh, wait..he's still alive.

LOL...true...Ill opt for Coldplay I guess....I think this is live..on NJTV....all I know is PJ got voted off by the women...lol...
  4. Answer me tomorrow on this one, Ed - you have guests. How's the sound on those 1993 shows you ...recommended?
  5. I would say Las Vegas 11.30.93 is the best sounding, and best known boot.I believe PJs 10club sent a few of these out to their fans many, many yrs ago....The first 2 albums are represented well....and the last 3 tunes are unusual covers...try that one...
  6. Listened to the 2010-05-21 MSG show twice today (in parts)...awesome show...I need to do more listening and less compiling/editting.

Although I usually like the slower start to their shows (Release, Sometimes, Long Road, etc) starting with Corduroy is a great alternative. Lots of heavy hits to start, Breath is a treat, and a bunch of surprises/rarities:

I've never been a fan of the album versions of "I'm Open" and "Push Me Pull Me" but both come off very nice live - in their own, very different way.

The acoustic/string version of "Lukin" is incredible.

"Black Red Yellow" is, like the earlier two I mentioned, is much better live than its studio version. "Sweet Lew" is...well... at least the band has a sense of humour... and nothing wrong with a little funk - "two-times only" .... I did notice that they broke into some serious upbeat hits after these rarities "for the collectors" - even PJ knows better than to go too far off the beaten path.

I realize that, although I like the WMA snippet in "Daughter," I'll take the "It's OK" ending instead. A combo of the two would be best.

The version of "Better Man" that you recommended, Ed, is very solid - but still not as good as Mexico 2003.

  7. The 3 gigs in Mexico are solid, but I, for whatever reason, never got into them,or the South American gigs from 05 for that matter.Strange.

The 2 shows at MSG (05.20,05.21.10) are legendary.N2 particularly has generated such comments (on PJs forums) as "the best show ever..period" by many a fan.IMO,these are 2 must have gigs.

Another solid, often overlooked and dismissed show, from the N.American tour, is Newark,05.18.10.This show was added late,in April I believe,as the demand for PJs 2 MSG shows sold out immediately, in a near frenzy. The Newark gig is considered by most,as merely a "warm up" gig, to the 2 infamous MSG shows that were looming.I disagree. Some rare gems were played, including a fantastic Of The Girl as an opener.Alone,Brain of J,Brother,Glorified G,Immortality,In Hiding,Leatherman,Footsteps,Inside Job,Jersey Girl,You Are,Whipping and a great closer in All Along The Watchtower ended it.A fantastic version of Go was belted out,as well as a great version of Indifference.

The reason this show is considered "weak",is the lack of crowd participation.EV, during the first encore, mentions this."Your a little quiet, but thats just how you are.I understand." IMO he didnt seem annoyed. This show has an intimate feel to it.The setlist is more for the hardcore fan.As far as Im concerned, this gig was a gift.A bonus to the Metropolitan area.30 songs...rare gems...numerous b sides.....A must listen gig IMO.

The last 5 shows, from the N.American tour, are fantastic.Hartford 05.15,Boston 05.17,Newark 05.18 and the 2 classic MSG gigs in NYC,that ended the tour are the most enjoyable.

    I feel a mix comming on........LOL.
  8. Listening to Night 1 of 2010 MSG today. Very solid gig...great mix of songs between the two nights - kind of like the two 2011 Toronto shows.

I was intending to listen to the Newark show next...working backwards, I suppose.

  9. I was thinking about dong a combined 2009/2010 European mix but not now - later.
My New Year's resolution (amongst others that are unrelated to PJ) is to take more time listening/enjoying the shows as opposed to thinking ahead to a mix I want to create. I don't want to seem like the guy in "Off He Goes." Now you can do that, Ed, as you have a decade on me in terms of all these boots. You've done your listening.

  10. wow long reading since the last time i was in ... nice job guys
  11. So, according to U2start's list, the nine best PJ songs are (not in the order of this ranking)
    Alive
    Black
    Jeremy
    Even Flow
    Daughter
    RVM
    Corduroy
    Better Man
    Given to Fly

Hard to argue with these nine but...

    What #10?
  12. Even Flow I would hope....
