    The Rail network in Europe is a whole lot better than the UK's with most of the main cities in Europe reachable.

    It was opened in the 'Active Topics' forum Valid query, just obviously in the wrong forum. With many of the members here living on mainland Europe, there must be someone who can assist. I've been looking at rail travel in Europe myself, it does seem a little more flexible than UK with unlimited passes available etc. I do a lot of rail travel within the UK, so quite knowledgeable when it comes to getting the best deal etc so I'll have a quick look later, see if I can offer something more specific.
  10. mmmh. I would like to help along. But honestly, when travelling inside Germany, I go by train or car. That also includes Holland all other countries within Europe --> plane train travel just takes too long.
    So I can't say anything about travelling by train from London to Rome. Hope someone else can
  11. Well it depends. Paris is quickly reachable from here. Same goes for London.

    Obviously the first step is Eurostar to Paris, set you back £59 if you book before January 23rd. Then the next step is a train from Paris to Rome, using the website posted in the first reply, you can find that information out easily. Tomorrow I found a train, leaves Paris at 07:49 and arrives in Rome at 18:59. It's an 11 hour journey and has only one change (Milan), which isn't bad. Problem is the expense, £134 outbound and £98 return. Obviously that's for a booking tomorrow. Obviously I don't know when you're travelling.

    EDIT: Also available on the raileurope.co.uk website are rail passes, a global pass which allows 5 days travel within 10 days of purchase is £245.
