    I suppose it comes down to a matter of taste. I prefer Pearl Jam's more energetic stuff like 'Even Flow', 'Animal' and 'Spin the Black Circle'. Actually, 'Spin the Black Circle' is my favourite song off Vitalogy, because it's so heavy, so punky and makes you want to spin round in circles (no pun intended) and start causing a riot in your own room when no one is in it but yourself. I just feel like that when it comes on. I think the screaming adds to it all. If it was just simply singing, it would feel rather empty; in my opinion, of course.

    But when it comes down to what is better live, it depends. If we were back in 1995 discussing this, I would say that 'Spin the Black Circle' is a better live song than 'Better Man', mainly because Pearl Jam's live shows were so full of raw power and energy. And the crowds took it to the absoutely extremes - I love that. Although, it's 2012 and Pearl Jam are 17 years older than that. The intensity of shows has dimmed massively, no one goes mental anymore. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but when it comes down to the 'Better Man' performance at Madison Square Garden in 2010, that shows the connection of the crowd. That is the best performance of that song and the crowd are amazing - singing in harmony and everything. 'Spin the Black Circle' has slowed down now, no one goes mental to it anymore. 'Better Man' still lives on and everyone sings along giving the concert spectacular atmosphere.

    One more thing, I would say - studio-wise - that 'Spin the Black Circle' is the better song than 'Better Man'.

    Very true.But,the shows here at MSG are still insane. IMO,the fans get very worked up.I had 2 guys from Australia go mental next to me during the 05.21.10 show you mentioned.I thought it was great,and we went for many a beer after the gig.

    I wish the band could have played that building in 1994-1995.PJ and U2 still have appeal with younger fans.I think that is great,and shows they are both still relevant.

    So true. It just goes to show you that it doesn't matter how old you are or when the songs were recorded, good music is good music.



  8. I actually like the studio version.Its a very interesting story,as to how the song was recorded.EV hated it,and wanted the song cut.OBrien recorded a different intro, with Vedder on guitar,and himself on keys.It was then mixed in with the original version.

    Is that show available on pjbootlegs.org? I've only found 3 MSG shows: 98 (twice) and 08...
