    I agree that they've gone to a little more upbeat style, and that's not neccesarily a bad thing... But they have to be careful with the overproduction they end up having in some/most of their songs lately, because it kills them.

    So I just made some minor modifications to my post (prematurely hit submit >__< ) but I still totally agree with your statement about overproduction. However, I don't feel that they are there yet. In fact, I think the song that feels the most "artificial" is Princess Of China, which I don't think will be performed. All the other songs on the album have an upbeat feel, but if we are talking about overproduction, MX ranks very, very low on the list of albums containing an overproduced sound.

    Also, my statement about the mellowness isn't about the lyrical content of the song. It's about the feel of it. I personally do not think The Scientist is one of their most mellow sounds. In fact, The Scientist feels very light and somewhat whimsical to me. The songs they choose to perform live are fairly mild on the mellowness scale. At least that's what I feel.
  2. I consider 'mellowness' as a mix of musical feel and lyrical content... I agree that The Scientist doesn't fit in the same category than Sparks or We Never Change But you get my poin. I don't thikn they've completely lost their mellowness (hence my reference to the lot of mellow songs in Mylo Xyloto)...

I don't really feel like Up With the Birds or Us Against the World are mellow...like you said, that adjective describes the texture AND the lyrics of a song, and especially Us Against the World is a very optimistic take on the situation in the title. They haven't lost it completely, its just weird to hear it in such an optimistic context.
  4. I was first introduced to Coldplay through Viva La Vida, but I instantly grew to like their older works as well. That being said, I guess it isn't unusual for me to say that I don't view Coldplay's new style as "weird" because I didn't really get into their mellow sound until after I heard their lighter works in Viva La Vida.

    On a somewhat unrelated note, I posted an unofficial "official" music video for Charlie Brown a couple pages back. I was wondering if any of you guys knew where the audio for that video came from. I'm not really an active member of any Coldplay fansites, so I was hoping somebody either knew or knew somebody who knew. The video was created before the other music video, and the audio used was definitely a high quality recording from one of the festivals they played at over the summer. I just can't seem to find it...

    Based in all I read coming from you Matt, I guess this is why Moving To Mars is not on MX.

    Such a great song (old coldplay style if you ask me) that doens't fit in MX "way of life".

    Since the video itself is a mix of different performances, maybe the audio is too, or maybe it's recorded in a studio.

    There was a time when I was obsessed with this song - actually, I'm still obsessed with this song =] - and I somehow ran into this performance (before it was included in this particular video). The part that really stands out to me is the "let's jump together" part Chris says at the beginning because I know the audio was from a performance that was of either radio or video broadcast quality, basically, a damned good recording. But for the life of me (and I guess many of you guys too) I can't find it! Maybe I'll send a PM to the youtube channel to see if he/she knows...

    The other, less practical method is to download each and every audio bootleg from last summer to find it. There's no way a high quality recording like this was simply a one-shot deal.

    But regarding the combination of the video editing and the audio, it's totally amazing. This song has quickly become one of my pick-me-up/inspirational songs. This video is probably on par with this one (I'm sure many of you guys know it) regarding its motivational and inspirational value.
