1. I'm not too sure whether this works for anyone else, so my apologies ahead in case it doesn't work. Don't get excited before you try it, because I'm not sure either about Linux or Mac, only Windows (I use XP) at this stage.

    This is not a copied tutorial, completely done from my own testing done tonight.

    Before you do anything, back up all your MP3s you intend to play with. I take no responsibility.

    ===============================================================================
    Converting MP3s to Gapless: Using Windows, Lame.exe and Foobar2000
    ===============================================================================

    * Download Foobar2000 from http://www.foobar2000.org/
    * Get Lame.exe from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=290&package_id=309

    - Next, install Foobar. It should be in Start > All Programs > Foobar2000
    - Open a bunch of files (File > Open) and they should appear (make a backup!)
    - Right-click on each one and choose Utils > Edit Gapless MP3 Encoder Information
    - Change the top number from 0 to 4095 and click OK. Do it for each one.

    If you know anything about how binary and bytes work, then you'll know what 4095 is close to. If not, one megabyte is usually said to be 1000. But really, it is 1024 and that comes to 4096 (1024x4=4096). That's a bit of maths for you all.

    Then get Lame.exe and save it. I saved it to My Documents, which is where all my crap goes.

    Back in Foobar, press Ctrl+A to select all files and right-click. Then choose Convert > Convert To. Click OK and ignore the lossy warning (obviously lossy as MP3s are), choose where the Lame.exe file is as Foobar will ask you (should be where you put it where I wrote:

    Then get Lame.exe and save it. I saved it to My Documents.

    Then when that's found, choose the Output Directory (My Music is best) and the files should save. Go to Media Player or iTunes, add the files and play them. They should now be gapless. I hope it works for some of you, as it has for me.
  2. you can do gapless in itunes quite easily. Just highlight the whole album or bootleg and tick the box that says 'gapless album'

    Not if you've ripped them straight to MP3. It inserts a two second gap into the end of each one, and no media player that I tried could bypass the gap, even enabling iTunes gapless (which I have turned off now). It's not a huge deal but if you like your shows gapless (like they're originally intended to be like), then this can work.

    It's just a small tutorial that only took me five minutes to write up.

    about 9/10 of my bootlegs play gapless. Just a select few don't. All my album stuff plays gapless to because I ripped them using apples lossless format

    I have the Dublin New Year's Eve one I think from here. It plays gaplessly in iTunes but on the iPod it doesn't, even after selecting Gapless in iTunes. At least the benefit of the idea is that even though FLAC may be gapless, most of us just don't have the quota to download 30-50MB per song.

    I'm getting a few of my select favourite bootlegs in lossless just. I repped my albums as lossless to see if it would overcome the hiss but it hasn't so i'll revert back to 320kps mp3's

    I honestly think it's a faulty sound processor on there. I know I've come across quite a few players (high-end, too, much more than an iPod) that have looked great, worked easily but by god the sound processor is shit.

    You should have said "Listen here mate. I have the iPod and it sounds like a piece of shit, I bought my songs from the iTunes Plus store without any copy protection, re-ripped several times to test - and I'd like to know how can I get a replacement on it?"

    I think its just a cheap headphone jack. If I plug my headphones into my laptop all I hear is hiss. Plug it into my hi-fi though and no hiss

    So now you know it's a dodgy headphone jack! I also noticed iTunes seems to have sound problems too, my songs sound fine in Media Player and Foobar but in iTunes they sound all mucked up.

    Not the 10th gen. The 159 billionth generation when Apple has 50 terabytes of drive space in there. 50 000GB. Wouldn't that be a sight to behold?

    "Unveiling the 50TB iPod 159 000 000 000th Generation. Holds 200 000 000 000 songs in lossless FLAC or 100 000 000 000 songs in MP9, 400 000 000 000 000 000 hours of video".

    How funny that would be. I think next generation is gonna be all flash, no hard drives as all of the other 6th gen iPods (except classic) use flash only. That'd have awesome battery life.
  12. I hope they get a 50GB flash drive up and running soon. How sweet would that be. Ywice as reliable, twice the battery life (twice the price perhaps)
